Samsung Galaxy Smart Phones Overview

Next to Apple, Samsung is the most visible and well known smartphone brand on the planet. And while Samsung might not be as profitable as Apple, it does sell more phones.

Samsung Galaxy phones are popular for a range of reasons but from a purely economic perspective, Samsung’s success and market share is largely down to the fact that it A) makes a lot of different models at varying price points and B) it invests heavily in marketing campaigns, both on and offline.

Additionally, Samsung Galaxy phones have some of the best cameras on the market, with advanced features and exceptional image quality. Samsung Galaxy phones also feature fast processors, thanks to its move away from EXYNOS and over to Snapdragon, as well as ample storage and best-in-class screen technology.

The company also makes a range of different styles of phones too. You have its higher-end Android phones like the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, its midrange Android phones in the form of the Galaxy A53 series, and its budget Android phones, the Galaxy M series. And there’s its range of foldable Android phones too.

Samsung Phone Software

One UI 5.1

Samsung phones run on Android, the Google-owned mobile and tablet operating system. Android is the world’s biggest mobile operating system by a significant margin, accounting for over 70% of all smartphones used globally.

Conversely, Apple’s iOS platform – the software that runs on its iPhone – has just 28% as of Q1 2023.

But even though Samsung phones run on Android, the software experience itself is completely different from that of Google’s Pixel phones – or any other Android phone for that matter.

The reason for this is that most Android phone makers, Samsung included, have their own custom skins which are run on top of Android; this is why the software on phones from Samsung and OnePlus look different despite the fact both phones may be running Android 13.

Samsung ONE UI

Samsung’s Android skin – the UX it runs on all of its phones – is called ONE UI. If you buy a Samsung phone today or next month or next year, you will be running ONE UI on your phone, or a version of it – new iterations are released throughout the year.

With each new build of Android, Samsung usually does a pretty major overhaul of ONE UI, adding in new design elements, new features and new abilities.

ONE UI is one of the better Android overlays, however, thanks to heavy investment from Samsung into its UX design, features, and abilities. In fact, ONE UI is so good nowadays it is one of the main reasons why we often recommend Samsung phones over, say, something from OnePlus or Nothing.
