Wonder Blocks review

Tetris-inspired game Wonder Blocks is a fast-paced, adrenalin-filled platform game where speed and brains go hand in hand.

Hamster-like characters attempt to build various wonders of the world including Egyptian pyramids and the Eiffel Tower by throwing blocks down, and it’s your task to arrange these blocks to make a stable construction while water all around you begins to rise, threatening to drown you.

We’re not quite sure of the relevance of the water here, as a normal timer or clock would have served the purpose, but the the rising water does make you panic.

You can rotate the blocks given to you by pressing 1 and 3, but we found this rotating action was much too sensitive, and a lot of precious time was spent trying to get a block to the perfect angle.

Adding another dimension is the balance bar – the taller your construction gets, the more it begins to sway and becomes unstable.

Extra points are awarded if you manage to complete the level while your building is teetering on the edge of collapse.

In later stages, blocks are coloured and extra points are given if you match the coloured blocks together.

Overall, Wonder Blocks is an exciting game, but is not for the faint hearted, as it certainly gets the heart pumping and occasionally the rage flowing!
