Samsung Galaxy S25 Series 101: What You Need to Know…
The Samsung Galaxy S25 series is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated smartphone launches of 2025.
Samsung has consistently delivered cutting-edge technology with each Galaxy release, and the Galaxy S25 series looks set to continue that trend with notable upgrades in performance, design, and features.
Now, Samsung’s financials aren’t exactly in great shape, so there’s more riding on its new phones than usual. Revenues and profits are done, while costs are up – and this places the company in a very precarious position, especially since this happened back in 2020 as well.
General demand for phones – regardless of brand – appears to be waning anyway. Even Apple is experiencing lower than expected demand for its iPhone 16 series. And if Apple is feeling the pinch, you can bet your ass everybody else is too.
Still, as you’ll see below, there is potentially quite a lot to get excited about with Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S25 series of smartphones (as well as a few potential controversies as well)…
Here’s what you need to know…
📅 Samsung Galaxy S25 Release Date
The Samsung Galaxy S25 lineup is expected to launch in January 2025, following the precedent set by the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, which launched in January of this year.
Samsung has been consistent in releasing their flagship Galaxy S series early in the year, usually between January and February. New models appear regular as clockwork, and we have no reason to believe things will be any different for the Galaxy S25 series.
Therefore, we can expect the Galaxy S25 release date to fall within the first quarter of 2025, likely in or around January. Failing that, the latest we’ll see them his shelves is February.
💰 Samsung Galaxy S25 Price Expectations
Pricing for the Samsung Galaxy S25 series is a hot topic, especially with the introduction of the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset, which is rumored to have a 20% price increase compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. As a result, we can expect a price bump across all models. Here’s what you might be looking at:
- Samsung Galaxy S25: Starting at $799 / £799 / AU$1,399
- Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus: Starting at $999 / £999 / AU$1,699
- Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: Starting at $1,299.99 / £1,249 / AU$2,199
These estimates are based on the pricing of the Galaxy S24 lineup, with an added premium due to the new chipset costs. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4’s higher price point may mean a significant price increase for consumers. Add in the fact that Samsung’s financials aren’t in great shape and it would appear almost certain that we’ll see a price-hike on all Galaxy S25 models in 2025.
📛 Galaxy S25 Series Name Changes
Rumors suggest some interesting name changes for the Galaxy S25 series. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra might be rebranded as the Galaxy S25 Note, while the Galaxy S25 Plus could become the Galaxy S25 Pro.
These potential new names align with the Note series legacy, especially since the Ultra models already feature the S Pen stylus. However, these name changes are not yet confirmed, and we recommend taking this information with a pinch of salt until Samsung makes an official announcement.
To be totally frank, this rumor seems more like an X post that got way out of hand than an actual, honest to goodness leak. Note DOES NOT sound anywhere near as premium or cool as Ultra, so I’d be very surprised to see Samsung change the branding for its most expensive model.
Where things could get interesting is if Samsung brings the S-Pen to the Galaxy S25+ model. No one really cares about the Plus model in Samsung’s range; it’s a bit like Apple’s iPhone 16 Plus. It’s great, but it is kind of forgotten about next to the Pro Max and base model. Changing the Galaxy S25+ to the Galaxy S25 Note does make sense – it’s a much cooler brand name, and it has history too.
✨ Samsung Galaxy S25 Design Updates
Samsung is rumored to introduce significant design changes in the Galaxy S25 series, especially for the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Now, none of these changes are 100% confirmed but it has been a minute since Samsung made any drastic changes to its Galaxy S phone designs, so we could see some shifts and updates inside the range.
The new model comes in at 6.41 x 3.05 x 0.32 inches. If we compare it to the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which measures 6.40 x 3.11 x 0.34 inches, the new phone is slightly taller, narrower and thinner than its predecessor, although not by much – Tom’s Guide
Here are some of the expected design updates:
- Larger Display: The Galaxy S25 Ultra might feature a 6.86-inch display, slightly larger than the 6.8-inch screen found on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. This display is expected to have thinner bezels, providing a more immersive viewing experience.
- Rounded Corners: The S25 Ultra might have rounded corners instead of the sharp edges seen on the S24 Ultra, which could make it more comfortable to hold.
- Slimmer Bezels: The overall footprint of the Galaxy S25 Ultra might be smaller, despite the larger screen size, due to slimmer bezels and a reduced frame.
The standard Galaxy S25 is expected to maintain a similar design to the Galaxy S24, but with refined details such as smaller bezels and a slight adjustment in dimensions to improve ergonomics.
📷 Samsung Galaxy S25 Camera Improvements
The Galaxy S25 Ultra is rumored to receive substantial camera upgrades, making it one of the most advanced camera phones in the market.
Galaxy S25 Ultra camera specifications have been confirmed. The only upgrade is the ultra-wide-angle sensor, 50MP 0.7um ISOCELL JN3 sensor, the main camera 200MP HP2 (small process upgrade model unchanged), 3x is still 10MP IMX754, 5x is still IMX854 50MP 0.7 um – Ice Universe
Here are some of the expected camera features:
- 200MP Main Camera: The S25 Ultra is rumored to come with a new 200MP main camera featuring a 1-inch sensor for enhanced low-light performance and dynamic range.
- Telephoto Improvements: The Galaxy S25 Ultra might also feature 50MP telephoto cameras with 10x zoom and a 3x-5x variable zoom, providing flexibility for both distant and mid-range shots.
- 50MP Ultra-Wide Camera: An upgraded 50MP ultra-wide sensor is also expected, which should improve landscape photography and provide more detail in wide-angle shots.
While these camera rumors are exciting, it’s important to note that not all details are confirmed. However, it is likely that Samsung will continue to improve its photography capabilities, keeping the S25 Ultra competitive against other flagship models.
🚀 Galaxy S25 Chipset and Performance
This is perhaps the juiciest aspect of Samsung’s upcoming phones. There have been reports that Samsung was considering using MediaTek chipsets inside certain variants – but this rumor (which was started by Google, no less) has now more or less been put to bed.
What about MediaTek? Well, it declined to comment when approached by Android Authority. That may look suspicious, but chipmakers, including Samsung, often refuse to reveal their clients. They only do so once a client/manufacturer is ready to announce a device that uses their chip, so Google may not have had an ulterior motive – SamMobile
The reason the CPU the Galaxy S25 will use is so contentious relates to cost: Qualcomm is whacking up the price of its Snapdragon 8 GEN 4 and Samsung – as well as most other brands – aren’t too happy about this because it means they’ll have to increase the price of their phones.
Whatever happens, the Samsung Galaxy S25 series will be powered by different chipsets depending on the region. As of right now, here’s how it breaksdown:
- Snapdragon 8 Gen 4: Likely for the US market, offering significant performance boosts compared to the previous generation.
- MediaTek Dimensity 9400 or Exynos 2500: Expected in certain regions, including Europe, India, and South Korea.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is rumored to feature a clock speed of up to 4GHz and improved efficiency for better battery life. Additionally, leaks suggest that the Galaxy S25 lineup could come with increased RAM, with the Galaxy S25 Ultra offering up to 16GB of RAM and the base Galaxy S25 featuring 12GB of RAM. This hardware upgrade should ensure a smooth user experience, even with demanding applications and multitasking.
🔋 Samsung Galaxy S25 Battery Life
There are conflicting rumors about the battery capacity of the Galaxy S25 series. Some sources claim that the batteries will be larger than those in the Galaxy S24 models, while others suggest they will remain the same. Here are the current expectations:
- Galaxy S25: Expected to retain a 4,000mAh battery capacity.
- Galaxy S25 Ultra: Likely to have a 5,000mAh battery, similar to its predecessor.
While battery sizes may remain unchanged, the improved efficiency of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset could still result in longer battery life, especially with software optimizations in One UI 6 and the upcoming One UI 7 update.
Galaxy S25 Features, Colors & Connectivity Updates
🎨 Color Options and Build Quality
The Galaxy S25 series is expected to offer a variety of color options, similar to previous Galaxy models.
We can expect classic colors like Phantom Black and Cream, along with a few limited-edition colors exclusive to Samsung’s online store.
The build quality will likely include a glass back and an aluminum frame, ensuring a premium feel and durability.
🌍 Galaxy S25 Connectivity and Software
The Samsung Galaxy S25 series will support the latest connectivity standards, including 5G, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.3.
The phones will run on Android 15 (potentially) at launch with One UI 6, providing a seamless and customizable user experience.
📊 How the Galaxy S25 Series Stacks Up Against Competitors
The Samsung Galaxy S25 series will be competing with other flagship models like the iPhone 16, Google Pixel 9, and OnePlus 12.
With its expected improvements in camera technology, display quality, and performance, the Galaxy S25 is well-positioned to be one of the leading smartphones in 2025.
The inclusion of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and rumored updates to its core specs, camera tech, and design could well make it one of the most in demand phones of next year.
🤔 Should You Wait for the Samsung Galaxy S25?
If you’re considering upgrading your phone, the Samsung Galaxy S25 series could be worth the wait, especially if you value cutting-edge technology and high performance. The rumored upgrades to the camera system, chipset, and overall design make the Galaxy S25 an attractive option for power users and enthusiasts alike. However, with potential price increases, it’s essential to weigh whether these improvements are worth the additional cost.
📈 Final Thoughts on the Samsung Galaxy S25 Series
If you’re due an update in the latter part of 2024 or early 2025, I definitely think the Samsung Galaxy S25 series will be worth waiting for; the Ultra models are ALWAYS pretty impressive. There are some questions over things like what chipset it’ll use and its pricing, though, that could change things – no one wants to see a MediaTek chip inside any of them, for instance, but this isn’t something we happening anyway – the rumor has more or less been squashed.
With updates, it would appear there’s a lot of new things and tweaks coming to all of the phones in the series – not just the Ultra. We have talk of potential naming rebrands, bringing back the Note name, and a huge focus on camera tech (obviously). Add in things like higher levels of RAM and improvements to the phone’s screen tech and there should be plenty to get excited about.
While rumors are still circulating, it’s clear that the Galaxy S25 series will be one of the top contenders in the flagship smartphone market for 2025.
