I’ve used just about every Apple Watch since the Series 3, and the Apple Watch Series 10 might be my favorite yet.

It’s not the cheapest model—that title still belongs to the Apple Watch SE 2—but it has everything I want in a smartwatch: a sleeker design, better battery life, and some genuinely useful new features.

It’s not a huge leap forward, but the refinements here make a noticeable difference in everyday use.

Thinner, Lighter, and Way More Comfortable

The first thing I noticed when I strapped on the Series 10 was how much thinner and lighter it felt.

Apple says it’s 10% thinner than the Series 9, and while that doesn’t sound like a lot, it absolutely makes a difference.

  • It’s more comfortable for all-day wear – I usually take my Apple Watch off when I’m working out because it can feel a little bulky. But with this one? I barely notice it.

Sure, it doesn’t have ECG, blood oxygen monitoring, or sleep apnea tracking, but if you just want a fast, reliable smartwatch for fitness, notifications, and everyday convenience, this is the Apple Watch to get.

Core Apple Watch Experience Without the Extra Cost

One thing I love about the SE 2 is that it doesn’t feel like a “budget” Apple Watch.

It runs the same S10 chip as the Series 10, so everything is fast and smooth—apps open quickly, Siri responds instantly, and animations feel just as fluid as on pricier models.

And despite the lower price, it still has all the essential Apple Watch features:

  • Activity Rings – Keeps you moving and motivated.
  • Heart Rate Tracking – Great for workouts and general health.
  • Notifications & Calls – Stay connected without pulling out your phone.

What’s Missing? And Do You Actually Care?

Now, let’s be real—the SE 2 isn’t for everyone.

There are some features it doesn’t have:

  • No Always-On Display – You have to raise your wrist to see the time. (Honestly, I got used to this in a day.)
  • No ECG or Blood Oxygen Tracking – If you want serious health monitoring, you’ll need the Series 10.
  • No Ultra-Level Battery Life – It’s all-day battery, not multi-day like the Ultra 2.

For serious athletes or those with medical needs, these might be deal-breakers. But for casual users, I never really missed them.

Apple ain’t the only game in town.

In fact, prior to getting these watches in for testing, I was pretty much a Garmin fanboy for life. 

The main reason I prefer Garmin watches is because, well… they’re not that smart.

They just get out of the way, tell the time, and track my workouts and health metics. 

Android-powered smartwatches are a different beast altogether, and some users swear by them over Apple Watch.

Apple’s 18-hour battery life expectation isn’t even half of the Galaxy Watch 6’s 40-hour battery life claim. And in real-world testing, Android Police’s Ara Wagoner confirmed that not only was 40 hours an accurate claim, but she often got two full days before hitting the low battery warning.

Like Apple Watch, they’re designed to be smart – notifications, OLED screens, lots of beeping. 

I used these three watches as a basis for comparison because I believe they demonstrate pretty clearly the main differences between smartwatches and fitness trackers.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 is the most “normal” in this category, offering 40–50 hours—enough for most users but requiring more frequent charging.
