OnePlus 5 & OnePlus 5T WILL 100% Get Android Pie Update

OnePlus has finally released its Oxygen OS 5.1.5 for the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T.

The update isn’t a particularly exciting one; just minor tweaks and optimizations here and there.

The big news is the inclusion of Project Treble support, meaning the handsets will be able to get Android Pie quicker in the coming months.

The OnePlus 6 already has Project Treble support, so this update was more a case of bringing the older handsets in line with the company’s current flagship.

It’s a nice gesture too; OnePlus didn’t have to do this. But doing so shows it cares about its long-standing users as well as its newer ones.

OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T Android Pie Release Date

The OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T got Android Oreo landed during the last week of December last year.

Will Project Treble speeds things up this year? Most likely. The software is designed (by Google) to ensure Android updates are easier to roll out to non-Google smartphones.

Project Treble, in Google’s own words, allows a vendor (OnePlus, in this context) to deliver new updates to users’ phone simply by updating the Android OS framework.

No additional work is required from silicon manufacturers. This is why Google worked with ALL the big CPU players when developing Treble.

“We’ve worked closely with Qualcomm, MediaTek and Samsung Electronics’ System LSI Business to co-develop their BSPs, starting with Android P,” said Google.

“Their BSPs are now ready for Android P on a much-accelerated schedule, reducing the overall effort significantly.

“These silicon manufacturers are now able to provide a stable and high-quality release much earlier than before, allowing OEMs to bring the latest innovations of Android to their customers across the globe.”

Let’s hope OnePlus can use this to get Android Pie out to ALL of its handsets in record time.
