Apple’s COO, Tim Cook, has dropped the biggest hint yet that Apple is looking to release a cheaper iPhone model aimed solely at the pre-pay market.
It’s been rumoured for a long time, but now it seems that rumour has taken on a smidgen of truth as Apple’s COO confirmed that the company has a “very clever” plan for pre-pay market.
Does this mean Apple is releasing a cheap iPhone alternative? Quite possibly.
The news comes via a meeting that industry analyst Toni Sacconaghi held with Apple’s COO Tim Cook.
According to Sacconaghi, Apple has a “very clever” plan for tapping into the pre-pay market.
Apple also confirmed that it doesn’t just want its products to be for rich people.
This meeting, according to Sacconaghi, affirmed that Apple “is likely to develop lower priced offerings.”
Meaning Apple will have two handsets on the market – the premium iPhone 5 and the cheaper iPhone (Nano?)
According to Forbes, Apple is aiming the new “cheaper iPhone” at the pre-pay market and will make the iPhone available for under $200.
Expect more news regarding this iPhone-cheapo at the iPhone 5 launch.
