iPhone 18 Pro Preorder Schedule Detailed In Full + When You’ll Actually Get It

Credentials
โšก The Short Version

When Will The iPhone 18 Pro Be Released?

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected in September 2026, although Apple has not confirmed the event, preorder or release dates. Higher component costs could also push both models well above current Pro pricing.

Expected iPhone 18 Pro Launch Schedule

Stage Most likely date Alternative date
Apple event Wednesday, September 9 Tuesday, September 15
Preorders open Saturday, September 12 Friday, September 18
Full release Friday, September 18 Friday, September 25

What You Need To Know

  • Nothing is confirmed: Apple has not announced the event, preorder or release dates.
  • The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to launch alongside Appleโ€™s folding iPhone.
  • The standard iPhone 18 is reportedly delayed until spring 2027.
  • Analysts have warned that Pro prices could rise by $250 to $300.
  • The iPhone 18 Pro could cost roughly $1,249 to $1,399.
  • The iPhone 18 Pro Max could start at roughly $1,349 to $1,499.
  • A global memory shortage, 2nm processor costs and more expensive camera parts are putting pressure on Appleโ€™s costs.
  • Refurbished iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro models already provide most of the useful Pro features for hundreds less.

Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are now less than a month away, assuming the company sticks to its usual September launch routine.

According to a new report from MacRumors, Apple is likely to announce its new Pro iPhones on Wednesday, September 9, with preorders potentially opening on Saturday, September 12. The phones would then reach customers and stores on Friday, September 18.

None of those dates has been confirmed by Apple yet.

There is also a second possible schedule that would move the event to September 15, preorders to September 18 and the full release to September 25.

Either way, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to arrive during September. The bigger question is how much Apple will charge, because almost every current report points in the same unpleasant direction.

These could be the most expensive Pro iPhones Apple has ever released.

When Will iPhone 18 Pro Preorders Start?

iPhone 18 Camera Rumors Deep-Dive New Features & Why They Matter

The most likely preorder date is currently Saturday, September 12, 2026.

That is slightly unusual. Apple normally opens new iPhone preorders on a Friday, but the calendar creates an awkward problem this year.

Labor Day falls on Monday, September 7. Apple usually holds its September iPhone event on the first Tuesday or Wednesday after Labor Day, which points towards either September 8 or September 9.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has previously said September 8 or September 9 are the most likely announcement dates. MacRumors now argues that Wednesday, September 9 is the best fit based on Apple’s earlier launch patterns.

If Apple uses September 9 for the event, opening preorders on Friday would mean starting them on September 11. Apple avoided doing that when faced with the same calendar in 2015, moving iPhone 6s preorders to Saturday, September 12 instead.

It could repeat that approach in 2026, particularly because this year marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

The resulting schedule would look like this:

  1. Wednesday, September 9: Apple announces the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max and folding iPhone
  2. Saturday, September 12: Preorders begin
  3. Friday, September 18: Deliveries arrive and retail sales begin

That is an informed prediction based on Apple’s habits. It is not an official invitation or launch announcement.

There Is Another Possible Release Schedule

Apple could avoid the September 11 issue by moving the whole event back one week.

In that case:

  • The event would take place on Tuesday, September 15
  • Preorders would begin on Friday, September 18
  • The phones would be released on Friday, September 25

This would still get the devices into shops before the end of Apple’s financial quarter and leave plenty of time to build stock before the holiday season.

The later schedule could also give Apple a few extra days to deal with reported production pressure surrounding memory chips and its new A20 Pro processor.

We should know which timeline Apple has chosen as soon as event invitations go out.

Which New iPhones Are Launching In September?

This will not be a normal iPhone launch.

Apple is expected to introduce three expensive models:

  • iPhone 18 Pro
  • iPhone 18 Pro Max
  • Apple’s first folding iPhone, currently referred to as the iPhone Ultra

The standard iPhone 18 is not expected until spring 2027. The cheaper iPhone 18e and second-generation iPhone Air are also expected during that later launch window.

That means there may be no newly announced iPhone below $1,000 in September.

Anyone who wants Apple’s newest hardware immediately will have to buy a Pro model or spend considerably more on the folding iPhone. You can read our full report on why the standard iPhone 18 has reportedly been delayed.

This split release also matters for availability. Buyers who would normally choose the standard model may move towards the iPhone 18 Pro instead, adding more pressure to stock that could already be limited.

How Much Will The iPhone 18 Pro Cost?

Apple has not announced pricing, but the current estimates are not pretty.

The iPhone 17 Pro started at $1,099 in the US, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max started at $1,199. Analysts have warned that the iPhone 18 Pro generation could cost between $250 and $300 more, depending on the model and storage tier.

That produces the following possible ranges:

ModelPrevious Starting PricePossible iPhone 18 Price
iPhone 18 Pro$1,099Roughly $1,249 to $1,399
iPhone 18 Pro Max$1,199Roughly $1,349 to $1,499

These are estimates, not leaked Apple price lists.

Apple could absorb part of the increase, reduce its margins, negotiate lower prices elsewhere or change the starting storage. It could also raise prices less sharply on entry configurations while pushing larger increases onto 512GB and 1TB models.

But a price rise of some sort looks increasingly difficult to avoid.

Why Are iPhone 18 Pro Prices Expected To Rise?

This is not simply Apple deciding it fancies another hundred dollars.

Several of the most expensive parts inside the iPhone 18 Pro are either changing or caught in wider supply problems.

1. RAM Prices Have Gone Mad

The smartphone industry is dealing with a major shortage of DRAM and NAND flash storage.

Memory manufacturers can make more money supplying high-bandwidth memory and server parts for AI data centres. Production capacity has therefore moved towards those products, leaving phone, computer and consumer-electronics companies competing for a tighter supply of conventional memory.

Apple buys components at an enormous scale, but it is not immune to the market. Reports suggest its RAM costs have more than tripled in some cases.

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to use 12GB of RAM. That is not necessarily more than the previous Pro generation, but buying those chips has become far more expensive.

Storage is affected too. A 1TB phone contains substantially more NAND than the entry model, which is why the biggest increases may appear at the top of the range.

Our iPhone 18 RAM guide explains how the shortage affects every model and why Apple needs so much memory for AI, cameras and heavier applications.

2. The A20 Pro Uses A New 2nm Process

The iPhone 18 Pro models are expected to introduce Apple’s A20 Pro processor, produced using TSMC’s new 2nm manufacturing process.

New manufacturing nodes are expensive at the start. Apple is paying for early access to denser, more efficient silicon, plus the research, lower initial yields and specialist production needed to build it at scale.

The A20 Pro is also expected to use wafer-level multi-chip module packaging. This places the processor and memory together earlier in production, shortening the distance data has to travel and potentially improving efficiency.

It also makes manufacturing more dependent on having the required memory available at exactly the right stage. TSMC cannot simply finish the processor and add the RAM months later if supply is tight.

That helps explain why the memory shortage could affect both price and availability.

Read our A20 and A20 Pro explainer for more on what the new processor may change in normal use.

3. The Camera Hardware Is More Expensive

Both Pro models are expected to receive an upgraded 48MP main camera with a variable aperture.

A variable aperture physically changes how much light enters the lens. It can use a wider opening in darker conditions or a narrower opening when more of the scene needs to remain in focus.

This is more mechanically involved than the fixed-aperture cameras Apple currently uses. It requires additional moving parts, control hardware and calibration during assembly.

The practical benefit should be more natural control over light and depth, particularly for portraits, close-ups and bright outdoor photography. The potential downside is another costly component inside an already expensive phone.

Our iPhone 18 Pro variable-aperture guide explains how it works and where people may notice the difference.

4. Bigger Batteries And New Displays Cost More

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are also tipped to use larger batteries and more efficient LTPO+ OLED panels.

Neither part sounds dramatic in isolation. Add them to a new processor, memory packaging, modem and camera system, though, and Apple’s bill of materials starts moving quickly.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max may take the biggest hit because it combines the largest display, largest battery, expensive camera system and higher-capacity storage options.

5. Apple Has No Cheaper New Model To Protect

Delaying the standard iPhone 18 changes the commercial calculation.

Apple does not need to keep a new $799 or $899 iPhone beneath the Pro models this September. Its launch is focused entirely on premium hardware.

The company can continue selling older standard models at lower prices while asking early adopters to pay more for the newest generation.

That does not prove Apple will raise prices by $300. It does mean there is less pressure to make the September range look affordable.

Could The iPhone 18 Pro Sell Out?

Yes, particularly during the first preorder weekend.

Reports suggest Apple and its manufacturing partners expect to meet initial demand, but retail stock could disappear quickly. The global DRAM shortage has reportedly left completed A20-series processors waiting for memory before they can move through the next production stage.

Demand may also be concentrated around fewer models because the standard iPhone 18 is missing from the September launch.

If you definitely want an iPhone 18 Pro on release day, the sensible move is to:

  1. Decide the model, colour and storage before preorders open
  2. Check your Apple Account, delivery address and payment details
  3. Get any trade-in quote ready beforehand
  4. Use the Apple Store app or website as soon as orders begin
  5. Have a second colour choice in case your first choice slips

Do not panic-buy a storage tier you do not need merely because the cheaper model shows a longer delivery estimate. Apple normally improves availability after the first few weeks.

What Are You Actually Getting For The Higher Price?

The iPhone 18 Pro range is expected to include:

  • A20 Pro processor built on TSMC’s 2nm process
  • 12GB of RAM
  • Variable-aperture 48MP main camera
  • Upgraded camera sensors
  • Larger batteries
  • More efficient LTPO+ OLED displays
  • Smaller Dynamic Island
  • Apple’s C2 modem
  • Possible 5G satellite support
  • New colour choices

You can see every current rumour in our complete iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max guide.

Those are real hardware changes if the reports are correct. The problem is that recent Pro iPhones are already extremely fast, have excellent cameras and receive the same major iOS releases.

Someone editing ProRes footage, shooting large RAW files or using demanding on-device AI may benefit from the A20 Pro and extra efficiency. Someone using WhatsApp, Safari, Spotify, YouTube and the camera is unlikely to experience a $500 improvement over an iPhone 16 Pro.

That makes the refurbished market particularly hard to ignore this year.

The Smarter Alternative: Buy A Refurbished Pro iPhone

If the iPhone 18 Pro really does start around $1,300 to $1,400, recent refurbished Pro models will look absurdly good by comparison.

You are not dropping down to a cheap or basic phone. The iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max were Apple’s best phones when they launched.

They still provide:

  • ProMotion 120Hz OLED displays
  • Powerful Apple processors
  • Triple-camera systems with telephoto zoom
  • ProRAW and ProRes support
  • USB-C
  • MagSafe
  • Face ID
  • Apple Intelligence support
  • Years of iOS and security updates ahead

The key difference is depreciation. The first owner paid it. You get the same processor, camera and display fitted to that model for substantially less.

Current KnowYourMobile listings include warranty-backed phones with a 30-day returns window, and prices can sit 35% to 50% below the original new cost depending on storage, colour and condition.

Which Refurbished Model Should You Buy Instead?

Buy The iPhone 16 Pro Max If You Want The Closest Alternative

The refurbished iPhone 16 Pro Max is the best fit if you were already planning to buy the iPhone 18 Pro Max.

It has a 6.9-inch ProMotion display, A18 Pro processor, Apple Intelligence support, a 48MP main camera, 48MP Ultra Wide and 5x telephoto camera. It also has excellent battery life and years of software support remaining.

At prices starting around $771, it could cost roughly half as much as the expected iPhone 18 Pro Max. The newer phone will be faster and may have the better main camera, but it is difficult to argue that it will be twice as useful.

Buy The iPhone 16 Pro If You Want Premium Hardware Without The Size

The refurbished iPhone 16 Pro keeps most of the Pro Max hardware in a more manageable body.

You get the A18 Pro, Apple Intelligence, a 120Hz display, triple cameras, 5x telephoto zoom and USB-C. Current deals start at roughly $654, which is around $600 to $750 below the estimated iPhone 18 Pro price.

For most people, this is the sweet spot. It feels current, runs everything and does not require a small mortgage.

Buy The iPhone 15 Pro Max For Maximum Value

The refurbished iPhone 15 Pro Max remains one of the strongest buys in Apple’s entire range.

Its A17 Pro processor supports Apple Intelligence, the 6.7-inch display runs at up to 120Hz and the camera system includes 5x optical zoom. It also introduced USB-C and the lighter titanium frame.

With prices starting around $589, it delivers the large-screen Pro experience for less than half the possible price of an iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Buy The iPhone 15 Pro If You Want The Cheapest Sensible Pro

The refurbished iPhone 15 Pro currently starts at $523.

That buys you an A17 Pro processor, Apple Intelligence support, ProMotion, a triple-camera system, ProRAW, ProRes and USB-C. It is also smaller and lighter than the Max models.

It lacks the 5x zoom found on the 15 Pro Max and newer Pro phones, but the core experience is still extremely close. If you want to spend as little as possible without giving up Apple’s Pro display, cameras and AI support, start here.

Should You Preorder The iPhone 18 Pro?

Preorder it if you already know you want the variable-aperture camera, A20 Pro chip, longest remaining software life and whatever new features Apple confirms at the event.

Waiting for reviews is smarter if:

  • You are unsure which model to buy
  • Your current iPhone still works well
  • You want to see whether the new camera makes a visible difference
  • You are worried about battery life or heat
  • The reported price increase makes you hesitate
  • You are open to a refurbished Pro model

The most sensible approach is to watch the event, compare the confirmed specifications and then look at the final price.

If the iPhone 18 Pro starts closer to $1,249, Apple may have absorbed more of the component increase than expected. If it lands at $1,399, the refurbished iPhone 16 Pro and 15 Pro Max become much easier recommendations.

Bottom Line

The iPhone 18 Pro will most likely be announced on September 9, with preorders starting September 12 and the full release following on September 18.

Those dates remain predictions until Apple sends invitations and confirms its sales schedule. A September 15 event and September 25 release are still possible.

Pricing is the bigger concern.

The global memory shortage, expensive 2nm A20 Pro chip, new packaging, upgraded cameras and higher component costs could push the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max hundreds of dollars beyond their predecessors.

Some buyers will happily pay it. They want the newest iPhone and nothing else will do.

Everyone else should look at what $523 to $771 currently buys in the refurbished market. An iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, 16 Pro or 16 Pro Max still provides flagship performance, Pro cameras, 120Hz display technology, Apple Intelligence and years of updates.

That is most of the experience for potentially half the money. Unless the iPhone 18 Pro reveals something genuinely extraordinary, buying refurbished could be the best iPhone upgrade of 2026.
