Nokia CEO has been awarded the award for Mobile Person of the Year in the Know Your Mobile Awards 2011
Stephen Elop joined Nokia as President and CEO in September 2010 as the first non-Finn to be named CEO of Nokia. His recruitment spearheaded a monumental change within the organisation - looking at how the company was approaching the mobile handset business.
Elop's mission was to change the face of Nokia, reinvigorate the brand and create future devices that would evoke as much desire as those developed by Apple, BlackBerry and Google Android.
The launch of the first Nokia with Windows Phone based on Microsoft's all new mobile operating system is the start of this mission, combining Nokia's leading hardware with the consumer trust and belief in Microsoft.
Judges said:
‘It was a hard task to bring Nokia back to life.'
‘He speaks the truth and gains a lot of media attention for the company. He's very well known because of his previous job at Microsoft.'
‘He has made some radical, perhaps controversial changes to reinvent Nokia. Has a clear vision for the future and seems to have a clear goal.'
Ilja Laurs was the runner up in this category.
