- Samsung may finally be preparing a meaningful battery increase for its next top-end phones.
- Early reports on pre-production batteries point to a 5,700mAh cell for the Galaxy S27 Ultra and 5,200mAh for the S27 Pro.
Those figures would put both phones ahead of the current Galaxy S26 lineup on paper. But these are early component reports, not confirmed retail specifications, and a larger battery does not automatically mean a full extra day of use.
The reported S27 battery sizes
| Model | Reported battery |
|---|---|
| Galaxy S27 Ultra | 5,700mAh |
| Galaxy S27 Pro | 5,200mAh |
| Galaxy S26 Ultra | 5,000mAh |
| Galaxy S26+ | 4,900mAh |
| Galaxy S26 | 4,300mAh |
If the S27 Ultra figure holds, it would gain 700mAh over the S26 Ultra, a 14% increase in nominal capacity. The S27 Pro’s reported 5,200mAh would be 300mAh more than the S26+ and 200mAh more than the S26 Ultra.
That would be a notable change for Samsung’s Ultra phone, which has stayed around 5,000mAh for several generations. For the Pro, it could mean a battery larger than the S26+ despite the Pro’s different design and positioning.
You don’t have to pay $1,000+ for a new phone. Buying refurbished saves you, on average, 40% to 50%.
Which means you skip the inflationary price hikes, side-step the 2026 memory cost crisis, and still get the flagship performance and specs you want.
Recommended Options For 2026What could that mean in everyday use?
More capacity gives Samsung more room to improve endurance, especially for people who use navigation, video, mobile data, gaming or the camera heavily. It could also give the phone more breathing room as its battery ages which is always a good thing.
But 14% more capacity does not guarantee 14% longer battery life.
The screen, processor, signal strength, software and how you use the phone all affect how quickly it drains.
Until retail phones are tested, claims about hours of extra use are guesswork.
The most useful question is whether the S27 Ultra can last longer through a demanding day without becoming thicker or heavier. The S27 Pro will face a different test: whether its battery can support a large display and high-end features in a body that may be smaller than the Ultra.
A bigger battery may be part of a bigger redesign
Some reports have linked the S27 Ultra battery to silicon-carbon technology, which could store more energy in the same space.
That remains unconfirmed.
If Samsung uses a new battery chemistry, the capacity figure alone won’t tell us how well it handles heat, charging or long-term wear.
The phones are also still in development.
Pre-production components can change before mass production, and the capacity advertised to shoppers can differ from a battery’s rated capacity in certification documents. Treat 5,700mAh and 5,200mAh as reported targets for now.
Charging speeds matter, too. Samsung lists the S26 Ultra at up to 60W wired charging, the S26+ at 45W and the S26 at 25W. A larger battery is more useful if charging remains quick, but there’s no reason yet to assume the S27 phones will charge faster.
You’re paying too much for data. Way too much.

Is this enough to make the S27 worth waiting for?
The Ultra’s reported increase is the more compelling change. If you regularly finish the day hunting for a charger, a larger battery could make a real difference, provided Samsung’s software and hardware deliver on the promise.
For everyone else, battery capacity alone may not justify waiting for a new phone. The S26 Ultra already has a 5,000mAh battery, and its real-world endurance depends on more than the number printed in a spec sheet. We’ll need independent tests of finished S27 phones before calling the upgrade a success.
If you’re considering a Samsung upgrade now, refurbished models offer a cheaper way to get a large screen and flagship features. A refurbished Galaxy S24 Ultra is currently listed from $592 on KnowYourMobile’s deals collection. Its original battery capacity is 5,000mAh, but a used phone’s actual battery condition depends on its age and history. Check the seller’s grading, warranty and return policy before buying.
For less money, the refurbished Galaxy S24+ starts from $399. If price is the priority, the Galaxy S23 Ultra collection has listings from $389.99. With any refurbished phone, ask about battery health or replacement coverage: a low price won’t help much if the battery is already worn.
