The Samsung Galaxy S27 series could be the biggest shake-up to Samsung’s flagship phone range in years.

Not because Samsung is about to reinvent the smartphone. It isn’t. The early leaks point to something much more useful: a fourth model, bigger batteries, better cameras and fewer reasons to buy the enormous Ultra just to get Samsung’s best hardware.

The most interesting model is the rumoured Galaxy S27 Pro. It is said to offer many of the Ultra’s headline specifications in a smaller body, minus the built-in S Pen. If that happens, Samsung would finally have a proper answer to Apple’s smaller Pro iPhone.

Samsung Galaxy S27 Models: Four Phones Are Reportedly Coming

Samsung currently sells three Galaxy S26 phones: the S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra. According to Korean industry publication ETNews, the S27 generation is being prepared as a four-model range:

The new Pro is the model to watch. ETNews reports that it will use a 6.47-inch OLED panel and share many specifications with the Ultra, while leaving out pen input.

That could fix a long-running problem with Samsung’s range. At present, choosing its best cameras also means accepting its largest, heaviest and most expensive phone. A smaller Pro would offer another route with a potentially smaller price tag too.

The naming is not locked in. “Galaxy S27 Pro” is still described as a tentative name, and Samsung could change it before launch. The four-device development plan and 6.47-inch display are better supported than the retail name.

Galaxy S27 Release Date: When Will It Launch?

The Galaxy S27 series is expected during the first quarter of 2027, most likely at a dedicated Galaxy Unpacked event in January or February.

There is no confirmed event date. The S26 arrived later than Samsung’s usual January window, so using “January 2027” as a nailed-on date would be premature.

Early One UI 9.5 development has reportedly appeared on Samsung’s servers, which is what we would expect for phones entering the later parts of development. For now, the safest answer is early 2027.

Galaxy S27 Price: How Much Could Each Model Cost?

Samsung has not set Galaxy S27 pricing. Any exact dollar or pound figure you see at this stage is an estimate. But given current market trends (and the fact the Pixel 11 got a price increase and Apple is expected to follow suit with the iPhone 18), I’d expect to see the prices hiked up a fair amount when the phones land next year.

The Galaxy S26 launched in the US at $899.99, while the S26+ started at $1,099.99 and the S26 Ultra at $1,299.99. Those prices give us a sensible floor for the next generation.

The Pro will need careful pricing. Place it too close to the Ultra and most buyers will simply spend the extra money for the larger screen and S Pen. Make it too cheap and it eats the S27+ alive. Somewhere between the Plus and Ultra is the obvious slot, but Samsung’s final storage options will matter.

Price pressure is also moving in the wrong direction. New flagship chips and memory are getting more expensive, while the rumoured camera and battery changes add hardware cost. Samsung could hold the entry prices and charge more for 512GB and 1TB versions, as it did with parts of the S26 range.

Galaxy S27 Design: A New Pro, But No Clear Redesign Yet

There are no trustworthy final renders of the Galaxy S27 family yet. Images claiming to show a finished S27 Ultra should be treated as concepts unless they are backed by manufacturing drawings or certification records.

The safest expectation is an extension of the Galaxy S26 design: flat displays, rounded corners, slim bezels and a shared visual style across the family.

The physical difference that matters most will be size.

The reported 6.47-inch S27 Pro would sit between Samsung’s compact base model and the larger Ultra model. It should be easier to use one-handed than the 6.9-inch Ultra while leaving enough room for a serious camera and battery system.

The Ultra is expected to retain its S Pen slot. Samsung had investigated a new pen-input method that could work without the conventional display digitiser, potentially making the phone thinner. ETNews says that change has been postponed, with the existing electromagnetic resonance system set to remain.

In plain English: the S Pen stays, but a slimmer new pen system probably does not arrive with the S27 Ultra.

Galaxy S27 Displays: Privacy Display Could Come To Every Model

The Galaxy S26 Ultra introduced a built-in Privacy Display. Unlike a cheap privacy screen protector, it controls how light leaves the OLED panel, restricting what people beside you can see while keeping the display clear from the front.

The feature makes sense on a train, in a coffee shop or on a flight. You could hide a banking app, messages or a password manager from people sitting beside you without making every other app difficult to view.

Industry reporting says Samsung plans to bring this technology to every Galaxy S27 model. If correct, this could be one of the range’s most useful shared upgrades. It is also a real point of difference, rather than another AI photo-editing tool most people try once.

Expected sizes are:

Galaxy S27 Cameras: Fewer Lenses, Better Sensors?

Samsung may make a surprising move on the S27 Ultra: cut the number of rear cameras from four to three.

That sounds like a downgrade, but lens count does not tell the full story. Current reports point to a 200MP main camera, a 50MP ultrawide and a 50MP telephoto. The separate short-range 3x camera may disappear, with Samsung relying on sensor cropping and the remaining telephoto to cover more zoom levels.

The front camera may move from 12MP to 16MP. Resolution alone does not guarantee a better selfie, but a new sensor would be welcome after several generations of similar front-camera hardware.

The S27 Pro is tipped to carry a camera system close to the Ultra’s, potentially including the same 200MP main, 50MP ultrawide and 50MP telephoto arrangement. This is not settled, but it is central to the reported reason for the Pro existing: Ultra-class hardware without the Ultra’s size or pen.

What about variable aperture?

Samsung tested a return to variable aperture, a feature it previously used on the Galaxy S9 and S10. It lets a camera physically change how much light enters the lens, opening wider in darker scenes and closing in bright conditions.

It now appears to be off the table. ETNews reports that Samsung decided against using it in the S27 series because of cost, camera thickness and doubts over the real-world gain.

So, despite earlier rumours, do not expect variable aperture on the Galaxy S27 range.

Galaxy S27 Battery: Samsung May Finally Go Beyond 5,000mAh

Battery capacity could be the update people notice every day.

Samsung used a 5,000mAh battery in seven straight Ultra generations from the S20 Ultra onward. Rival Chinese brands moved to silicon-carbon batteries and fitted much larger capacities into similarly sized phones. Samsung remained conservative, partly because it sells at a larger scale and places heavy demands on battery lifespan and safety.

That may change in 2027.

These figures are not confirmed. They are, however, more believable than claims of a 6,000, 7,000 or even 20,000mAh S27 Ultra.

Silicon-carbon chemistry can raise energy density, allowing Samsung to store more power without making the phone equally larger. If the 6.47-inch Pro really gets about 5,200mAh, it could become the battery star of the range: a smaller screen paired with a battery larger than the S26 Ultra’s.

The S27 Ultra is expected to retain 65W wired charging from the S26 Ultra. Charging information for the other models has not settled.

Qi2 with built-in magnets remains possible, but it is not confirmed. Proper magnetic Qi2 would allow snap-on chargers, battery packs and car mounts without requiring a magnetic case. Samsung has good reason to add it, although S Pen digitiser interference makes the Ultra harder to engineer.

Galaxy S27 Processor: Exynos 2700 vs Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6

Samsung is expected to split processors by model and region again.

Early reports suggest the base S27 and S27+ could use Exynos 2700 in the UK, Europe and other international markets, with Snapdragon versions sold in the US, Canada and China. The exact plan for the S27 Pro is less clear, while the Ultra is the strongest candidate for the faster Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro worldwide.

The Exynos 2700 is reportedly being built on Samsung’s second-generation 2nm process. An early test entry showed ten CPU cores, 12GB of memory and Android 17, but benchmark leaks this far ahead of launch are easy to fake or misread. They tell us development is happening, not how a retail phone will perform.

Qualcomm is also rumoured to split its flagship chip into standard and Pro versions. Claims of extreme clock speeds should be treated carefully until Qualcomm announces the platform.

For most buyers, the questions are simpler:

• Does the Exynos version match Snapdragon battery life?
• Does performance remain stable during gaming and video recording?
• Do all regions get the same camera features?
• Which models receive the faster Pro chip?

Those answers will matter more than a peak benchmark score.

Galaxy S27 Software: Android 17, One UI 9.5 & More Galaxy AI

The Galaxy S27 series should ship with Android 17 and Samsung One UI 9.5.

Samsung will almost certainly keep pushing Galaxy AI, but no S27-only AI feature has been confirmed. The S26 series already expanded Bixby’s natural-language controls, background assistance, Now Brief, Now Nudge, Circle to Search and support for Gemini and Perplexity.

The next step is likely to be more useful multi-app actions. For example, asking your phone to find a restaurant mentioned in a group chat, check when you are free, make a reservation and add it to your calendar. The hard part is not producing a clever demo. It is making this work reliably with the apps people already use.

Privacy will remain part of Samsung’s pitch. The current Personal Data Engine can process some personal context on the device, protected through Knox. Expect Samsung to pair this with the reported Privacy Display expansion and further controls over which AI services can access your data.

Samsung gives the Galaxy S26 series seven generations of Android upgrades and seven years of security updates. The same policy is expected for the S27 family, potentially carrying support into 2034.

Galaxy S27 vs S27+ vs S27 Pro vs S27 Ultra: Which Looks Best?

It is too early to recommend a phone that does not officially exist, but the shape of the range is becoming clear.

Galaxy S27: Best for most people who want a smaller phone

The standard S27 should be the cheapest and easiest to handle. It will probably miss the Pro and Ultra camera hardware, fastest charging and largest battery, but still offer flagship performance, a 120Hz OLED screen and long software support.

Buy this if you want a normal phone, not a tablet with a SIM card.

Galaxy S27+: Best for screen size and battery without Ultra extras

The Plus remains the awkward middle child. It should deliver a big display and good battery life for less than the Ultra, but the S27 Pro could make its job harder.

If the Pro has better cameras and a similarly large battery, buyers will need a clear reason to pick the Plus. That reason will probably be its larger screen and lower price.

Galaxy S27 Pro: Potentially the best model in the range

On current reports, this is the one I would watch.

A 6.47-inch display, an approximately 5,200mAh battery and cameras close to the Ultra’s would be a very strong combination. You give up the built-in S Pen and some screen space, but those are easy sacrifices if you never use the pen and dislike huge phones.

The unknown is price. Get that wrong and the whole idea falls apart.

Galaxy S27 Ultra: Best for the S Pen, biggest display and full camera package

The Ultra remains the no-compromise model. It should have the largest display, built-in S Pen, best zoom system, fastest Snapdragon chip and highest storage options.

Its main threat may come from inside Samsung’s own range. If the Pro delivers nearly the same cameras and battery in a smaller body, the Ultra will need its pen and zoom advantages to justify the extra cost.

Should You Wait For The Galaxy S27?

Wait if you specifically want a compact Samsung phone with top-level cameras, a battery larger than 5,000mAh or the next Ultra. The reported S27 Pro alone makes this generation worth watching.

Do not wait simply because a newer phone will exist next year. That loop never ends.

The Galaxy S26 range is already fast, has seven years of support and will become cheaper as the S27 launch approaches. Older models are cheaper again.
