The 14 Best Pixel 11 Features & Which Models Actually Get Them

Google has packed the Pixel 11 series with new camera modes, Gemini tools, magnetic charging and a strange little light called HiLight.

Some of these features are genuinely useful. Magic Capture could save photographs you would otherwise miss, while Rambler makes voice typing far less painful. Others need work. HiLight, in particular, feels more like an unfinished idea than a reason to spend $1,099 on a phone.

There is also a fairly brutal split between the standard Pixel 11 and Google’s Pro phones. Spend more and you get better cameras, faster low-light photography, 120x zoom and steadier video. The $1,899 Pixel 11 Pro Fold, meanwhile, gets some Pro features but misses several of the best Pro camera upgrades.

Here are the Pixel 11 features that actually matter, what they do and precisely which phones support them.

Best New Pixel 11 Series Features

1. Magic Capture records a video and takes the photos for you

Supported models: Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold

Magic Capture solves a very common camera problem: deciding whether to take a photograph or record a video.

Start Magic Capture and the phone records a short 1080p video. It then searches the footage and produces five 12MP HDR+ photographs from the moments it thinks are best.

Google also applies cropping and unblurring to make the selected photographs more presentable. You can press the shutter yourself while recording or pick a different frame later if the automatic choices are rubbish.

This should be handy for:

• Children running around
• Pets
• Sports
• Birthday candles
• Group reactions
• Dancing and live performances
• Anything else that refuses to stay still

The standard Pixel 11 gets the full mode, so you don’t need to buy a Pro phone to use it. Pro models can process supported Magic Capture clips through Video Boost to produce a 4K version.

The catch? Magic Capture’s original video is limited to 1080p and its photographs are 12MP. If image quality matters more than catching an unpredictable moment, the normal Photo and Video modes remain the better choice.

2. Gemini Intelligence can use information from different apps

Supported models: Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold

Gemini Intelligence is the AI layer running through the Pixel 11 series.

Instead of treating Gemini as a separate chatbot, Google is connecting it to supported apps and information already stored on your phone. The goal is to let Gemini carry out jobs that would normally involve bouncing between Gmail, Messages, Maps, Calendar and other services.

Imagine somebody sends you a restaurant address in Messages. Gemini could find the location, check your calendar and help arrange the journey without you manually copying details between apps.

It can also provide contextual suggestions through Magic Cue. If someone asks for your flight details, for example, the phone may find the booking information and suggest an appropriate response.

This could become one of the Pixel 11’s best features. Right now, though, its usefulness depends heavily on which apps, languages and countries Google supports.

Some Gemini functions also require an internet connection, access to your personal data or a paid AI plan once any included trial ends. Google’s documentation also warns that responses should be checked.

In other words, Gemini Intelligence has plenty of potential, but don’t expect it to operate every app on your phone like some sort of digital butler. We are not there yet.

3. Rambler fixes the annoying bits of voice typing

Supported models: Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold

Rambler is one of the more practical Gemini features because it deals with something people already do: dictate messages.

Normal voice typing transcribes almost everything you say, including mistakes, repeated words and all the “ums” that make you sound as if you’re being questioned by the police.

Rambler attempts to clean the text before inserting it. It can:

• Remove filler words
• Understand mid-sentence corrections
• Add punctuation
• Format text into bullet points
• Insert emojis through spoken instructions
• Handle supported multilingual conversations
• Reword or expand dictated text

You speak naturally, Rambler processes what you said and the cleaned version appears inside the text field.

Because it works through Gboard, it can be used in messaging, email, notes and other apps with a standard text box.

It is available across the Pixel 11 range, although language and regional restrictions apply. Rambler also processes the dictation after you finish rather than showing a perfect cleaned transcript word by word.

Still, this is useful AI. It fixes an existing problem without demanding that you completely change how you use your phone.

4. HiLight gives the Pixel 11 Pro a coloured notification light

Supported models: Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold

Not supported: Standard Pixel 11

HiLight is a coloured LED ring surrounding the flash on Google’s Pro phones. It glows when Gemini is processing and can display assigned colours when selected contacts call.

The idea is that you can place your phone face down and see who is calling without looking at the screen.

Interesting? Yes.

Useful in its current form? Barely.

At launch, HiLight cannot provide proper colour-coded notifications for every app. You cannot assign one pattern to WhatsApp, another to Gmail and a third to Slack using Google’s normal settings. Its contact and Gemini functions are extremely limited compared with Nothing’s Glyph Interface.

That makes HiLight feel unfinished. The hardware is sitting there, but Google has barely done anything with it.

A third-party tool called HiLight Studio can add app notifications, colours and lighting effects. However, installing it requires GitHub, Shizuku and extra setup, and it may need restarting after the phone reboots. That is not something the average Pixel owner should have to deal with.

There is also a hardware trade-off: HiLight replaces the temperature sensor found on previous Pro Pixels.

Google could fix most of HiLight’s problems with a software update. Until that happens, treat it as a mildly interesting status light, not a reason to buy a Pro.

5. Camera Looks gives Pixel photos a consistent style

Supported models: Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold

Camera Looks lets you change the visual style of a photograph before pressing the shutter.

The initial options include:

• Original
• Natural
• Shadows
• Vanilla

You can adjust the Looks and save your preferred option as the camera’s default profile.

This is Google’s answer to Apple’s Photographic Styles and the film-inspired modes offered by several Chinese phone makers. It is aimed at people who find traditional Pixel photographs a little too bright, sharp or heavily processed.

The main benefit is consistency. Instead of editing every photograph afterwards, you can create a look you like and use it across an entire set.

Camera Looks works across all four Pixel 11 models. Just remember that it does not change the physical capabilities of the camera. A filter cannot make the Fold’s small telephoto sensor perform like the 48MP telephoto inside the Pixel 11 Pro.

6. The Pixel 11 Pro can zoom up to 120x

Supported models: Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL

Limited to 30x: Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro Fold

The Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL combine a 48MP telephoto camera, 5x optical zoom and Google’s new Pro Zoom processing to reach 120x.

That is enough reach to photograph distant signs, buildings, aircraft, performers and wildlife that would appear tiny through the normal camera.

The important distinction is optical versus processed zoom.

The camera only provides 5x optical magnification. Everything beyond that relies increasingly on cropping, multi-frame processing and generative AI. The phone is attempting to reconstruct detail that the sensor did not capture cleanly.

Results around 10x and 20x should be far more useful than 120x. At the maximum setting, Pro Zoom is better treated as a spotting tool or occasional experiment than a replacement for a proper telephoto lens.

It can also misinterpret fine text, repeating patterns and small details. If you’re photographing evidence, documents or anything where accuracy matters, do not trust an AI-reconstructed 120x image.

The standard Pixel 11 and Pro Fold reach 30x Super Zoom. That sounds considerably worse on paper, but 30x is probably enough for most real situations.

7. Instant Night Sight takes low-light photos much faster

Supported models: Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL

Not supported: Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro Fold

Night Sight can produce excellent low-light photographs, but older versions often require you and your subject to remain still while the phone gathers enough light.

Instant Night Sight cuts the capture time by as much as 4.5 times, according to Google.

That matters when photographing people, pets or moving subjects in dim conditions. A shorter capture gives your subject less time to move and ruin the shot.

The feature uses the Tensor G6 image processor alongside the larger sensors fitted to the Pro camera system. Unfortunately, neither the standard Pixel 11 nor the much more expensive Pro Fold gets it.

The Fold still has regular Night Sight, including a hands-free astrophotography mode. But if low-light photography is a priority, the Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL are the stronger options.

8. Pro Stable Video automatically fixes shaky footage

Supported models: Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL

Not supported: Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro Fold

Pro Stable Video uses Google’s cloud-based Video Boost system to improve shaky recordings.

When the phone detects suitable footage recorded in bright conditions, it can apply stronger stabilisation during processing. This could help with clips filmed while walking, following children or recording handheld footage at an event.

There are three catches.

First, you cannot manually force Pro Stable Video to activate. The phone decides whether the scene qualifies.

Second, Video Boost uploads the recording to Google’s servers. It needs an internet connection, uses cloud storage and makes you wait for the processed version.

Third, it does not turn a phone into a gimbal. Sudden jolts, rapid movement and poor camera technique can still produce ugly footage.

It is a nice safety net for casual video, but anybody recording paid work should still use proper stabilisation.

9. Video Boost now supports 8K video

Supported models: Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL

Not supported: Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro Fold

The Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL can produce 8K video at 24 or 30 frames per second using Video Boost.

Again, this is not straightforward native 8K recording. The phone records the source footage, uploads it and Google processes the clip in the cloud.

Video Boost can improve:

• Exposure
• Colour
• Noise
• Low-light visibility
• Stabilisation
• Final resolution

For creators who crop footage or need extra room when editing, 8K output can be handy. For normal family videos, social posts and clips watched on a phone, 4K remains more sensible.

The files are smaller, processing is faster and hardly anybody viewing the finished video will notice the difference.

The Fold missing 8K Video Boost is another reminder that “Pro Fold” does not mean “Pixel 11 Pro with a hinge.”

10. Creator Suite turns Pixel into a basic filming kit

Supported models: Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold

Creator Suite brings several recording and organisation tools into the Pixel Camera app.

The suite includes:

• A teleprompter
• Project Folders
• Refine with Storyboard
• Audio Visualizer

The teleprompter displays a script while you record. Google says it can follow your speaking pace and pause when you pause, which is far better than trying to balance a second phone behind the camera.

Project Folders keep related clips together, while Refine with Storyboard helps arrange and trim footage. Audio Visualizer provides a visual display tied to your recording’s sound.

This should be useful for YouTube videos, product demonstrations, short-form clips, video messages and anyone recording directly to camera.

It won’t replace Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve or a proper editing setup. But it could remove several small bits of friction from shooting something quickly.

Importantly, Creator Suite is not restricted to the Pro phones.

11. Pixelsnap charging now reaches 25W across the range

Supported models: Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold

All four Pixel 11 phones support Qi2.2 magnetic wireless charging at up to 25W.

Last year, only the Pixel 10 Pro XL could charge wirelessly at 25W. The Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro Fold were limited to 15W.

The faster speed is useful, but the built-in magnets are arguably the bigger win. Pixelsnap accessories align properly without you nudging the phone around a charging pad and hoping for the best.

You can also attach compatible:

• Charging stands
• Car mounts
• Ring grips
• Wallets
• Magnetic power banks

Existing Pixelsnap chargers can supply 25W, but they need a USB-C power adapter rated at 35W or higher. The charger and power adapter may be sold separately, so factor that into the actual cost.

This is one area where the standard Pixel 11 gives up nothing to the Pro models.

12. Tensor G6 makes Pixel’s AI and camera processing faster

Supported models: Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold

Every Pixel 11 model uses Google’s Tensor G6 processor and Titan M3 security coprocessor.

Google claims Tensor G6 delivers:

• 50% more TPU compute for on-device AI
• 25% faster web browsing
• 15% faster app opening
• Up to 20% better power efficiency
• Faster camera and low-light processing

The chip is built to run Google’s Gemini Nano models and camera software, rather than chase the highest possible benchmark score.

That approach makes sense for Pixel features such as Rambler, Magic Capture and Instant Night Sight. You should notice quicker app loading, faster AI processing and less waiting inside the camera.

Don’t expect Tensor G6 to suddenly beat Apple’s latest A-series chip or Qualcomm’s best Snapdragon processor in sustained gaming performance. Early reviews still place Pixel behind its main rivals in demanding games and graphics-heavy workloads.

For most users, that will not matter. For serious mobile gamers buying a $1,299 Pro XL, it absolutely might.

13. The Pro displays are brighter and harder to scratch

Supported models: Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold

The Pro models use Super Actua displays capable of reaching up to 3,600 nits of peak brightness. The standard Pixel 11 reaches 3,000 nits.

Both figures are extremely high, although peak brightness is normally reached only in specific conditions and not sustained across the entire display.

The Pro and Fold panels also support a wider 1Hz to 120Hz refresh-rate range. They can drop to 1Hz when showing static content, which cuts power use, then rise to 120Hz for smooth scrolling and animation.

Google says the Pro cover glass provides more than twice the scratch resistance of the previous generation. The Fold gets a new glass-ceramic outer display, although its flexible inner screen remains more vulnerable than a normal slab phone display.

This is a sensible upgrade, but it is not transformative. Pixel 10 displays were already very good.

14. Seven years of updates makes every model easier to keep

Supported models: Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold

Google guarantees seven years of:

• Android version updates
• Security updates
• Pixel Drop updates

That support applies across the whole range, including the standard Pixel 11.

Seven years of support is not new to Pixel 11, but it remains one of the strongest reasons to buy one. You can keep the phone for longer, hand it to somebody else or sell it without leaving the next owner stuck on obsolete software.

There is a caveat. Software support does not guarantee that every future feature will work on every Pixel 11. New AI and camera tools may depend on newer hardware, available RAM, cloud subscriptions or Google’s own product decisions.

Your phone will continue receiving updates. That does not mean it will receive everything Google announces between now and 2033.

Which Pixel 11 has the best new features?

The Pixel 11 Pro is the best-balanced model in the range.

It gets HiLight, 120x Pro Zoom, Instant Night Sight, Pro Stable Video, 8K Video Boost, the 42MP selfie camera and Google’s full Pro camera system. It does this in the same compact 6.3-inch size as the standard Pixel 11.

The Pixel 11 Pro XL provides the same main features with a larger screen, bigger battery and faster wired charging. Buy it if you want maximum battery capacity and prefer a large phone.

The standard Pixel 11 is the value pick. You still get Tensor G6, Gemini Intelligence, Rambler, Magic Capture, Camera Looks, Creator Suite, a 5x telephoto camera, 30x zoom, 25W Pixelsnap charging and seven years of updates.

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is for people who specifically want a foldable. It gets HiLight, Creator Suite and the main Gemini tools, but misses the Pro and Pro XL’s 120x zoom, Instant Night Sight, 8K output and Pro Stable Video. At $1,899, that is hard to ignore.

The bottom line

Magic Capture, Rambler and 25W Pixelsnap charging are the Pixel 11 features most people will notice.

The Pro camera features also look good. Instant Night Sight tackles a real weakness of low-light photography, while Pro Stable Video should rescue some shaky clips. The 120x figure is more marketing-friendly than genuinely useful, but the improved telephoto system should still produce better results at sensible zoom levels.

Gemini Intelligence could become the biggest reason to own a Pixel. For now, app support, regional restrictions, subscriptions and Google’s habit of launching AI features before they feel finished make it difficult to judge.

And then there is HiLight. It looks cool, but Google has done remarkably little with it. Until standard app notifications and proper customisation arrive, it is basically an expensive coloured ring that tells you Gemini is thinking.
