It is a good idea to set up a password

Make sure your Nokia N70 is protected from unauthorised use with a password

Many people use their phones to store all kinds of personal information such as contacts and diary entries. If you are concerned about keeping the information in your Nokia N70 secure, then it is a good idea to set up a password.

First you need to go to the Security Settings screen. Press the Nokia Menu key to the left of the 1 and 2 keys then choose Tools. Now choose Settings.

Make sure the word ‘Phone is highlighted and press the centre of the navigation button. Next use the right side of the navigation button to scroll through the screens of options till you see the text ‘Phone and SIM’. Press the centre of the navigation button.

Scroll down to where it says ‘Lock code’ and press the centre of the navigation button.

Now type ‘12345’ and then choose OK with the left Selection key. ‘12345’ is the default lock code for this phone.

Next type your new lock code then choose OK with the left Selection key. Your lock code can only include the numbers 0 to 9. You will be asked to enter it again. Do this then choose OK with the left Selection key again. You will see a message that says ‘Lock code changed’.

Next scroll up to where it says ‘Autolock period’. You can set your phone to lock itself automatically after a period of non use. To do this click and then choose ‘User defined’ with the navigation button. Now enter the number of minutes after which you want the phone to automatically lock itself and choose OK with the left Selection key.

You will have to enter the lock code you set up and then choose OK, and finally you get the message ‘Code accepted’.

Now after the period of time you set the Nokia N70 will lock itself and a screesaver will appear to show that it is locked.

Unlock the phone
To unlock the phone ready for use select Unlock with the left Selection key then type the lock code and choose OK with the left Selection key. The message ‘Code accepted’ will appear and you will be able to use the phone.

Disable autolock
If you decide you want to disable the autolock go back to the Security Settings screen (see above), scroll to where it says ‘Autolock period’ then click the centre of the navigation button to select this and choose ‘None’. You will need to enter the lock code and choose OK with the left Selection key. The message ‘Code accepted’ will appear and the Autolock period will be reset to ‘None’.

NOTE: Do not forget your lock code. As good as it is at stopping unauthorised access to your phone, it won’t let anyone in who does not know the code. That includes you
