We walk you through hard resetting your Sony Xperia Z

Sony’s Xperia Z is a device so good that it has been unseating Apple’s iPhone as the smartphone du jour in the UK. The device features a stunning 5-inch screen with a pixel density of 441PPI, which makes for razor sharp images and its 13.1-megapixel camera is among the very best we’ve seen in a smartphone to date.

The Xperia Z will do almost anything you task it to but, like most technology, there may come a time when you need to solve a problem with the device and simply turning it off and on again won’t cut the mustard. On those (rare) occasions you’ll need to fall back to the tried, tested and trusty factory reset.

Here’s how you go about it. Before you do though, be aware that factory resetting your device will wipe all user data from it, so ensure you’ve backed everything up in advance – you can see our guide to backing up if you need a hand.

  • Grab your Sony Xperia Z
  • From your Home screen, select ‘Apps’
  • Select ‘Settings’
  • Tap ‘Backup & Reset’
  • Now, hit ‘Factory Data Reset’
  • Tap ‘Reset Phone’
  • Then hit ‘Erase Everything’

Your phone will now reset. It may take a while and reboot during the process, don’t be alarmed and don’t interfere – leave the device to complete the process and once it has finished you’ll be left with a smartphone that looks and feels like it’s just come out of the box.
