The Nokia 6110 Navigator has a GPS receiver built and comes with satellite navigation software supplied. This enables you to find your exact location, quickly search for directions to other locations, plan routes, and get step-by-step onscreen and voice navigation instructions.
The Nokia 6110 Navigator s supplied with Route 66's popular mobile Sat Nav software on a MicroSD card. This sophisticated system can search for addresses or numerous points of interest, using a variety of search options. You can search by postcode, partial details of the address, parts of names of locations, or hunt through numerous categories covering thousands of places of interest - from restaurants, theatres and bars to stations, car parks and shops. You can also do local searches based on your current GPS location.
The software on the Nokia 6110 Navigator makes it easy to find your way around. Here we show you how to look up directions quickly from your current location.
Getting directions to a location from your current position
First start up your Nokia 6110 Navigator's satellite navigation software by pressing the Navigator button - the large one with compass-like icon, beneath the main control pad (Figure 1).
Your Nokia 6110 Navigator will now search for satellites to find your exact position, showing it onscreen on a map (Figure 2). This may take under a minute or up to a few minutes, depending on how quickly the GPS receiver can lock on to sufficient satellite signals to pinpoint your position.
Now you can look up the location you want directions to by pressing the Options softkey (Figure 3). Choose the Navigate option (Figure 4) and press select.
Here you can choose several categories to search under (Figure 5) - Free text (a text search across all categories), Address (search by address or postcode), Nearby (numerous sub categories containing local points of interest and amenities), History (historical locations for tourists), My landmarks (your own bookmarked locations)or Contacts (addresses stored in your 6110's contacts list).
Select the Free text option if you're looking for something specific (an address, restaurant, bank etc), as it allows you to search across all categories. (Below you can see an example for a local search.)
Type in the details of the location you're looking for; it could be an address or postcode or other place (in this example, "airport stansted") (Figure 6). Press select.
A list of options are presented onscreen. Note that the more specific your request, the fewer options will be pulled up (a town or city name helps narrow down the options). Scroll down through the list until you find the location you're looking for (Figure 7). Press Options, highlight Navigate to and press select (Figure 8).
A pop up asking you whether to Start new navigation? pops up onscreen. Click on Yes (Figure 9). The Nokia 6110's Sat Nav system will now calculate the route from your current location to your destination. Your route will be marked on the onscreen map.
You can zoom out or in on the map by pressing the # or * keys on the phone's keypad. You can also get an overview of the whole route - press Options, select Zoom, choose the to entire route option and press select (Figure 10). The whole route is displayed (Figure 11). To return to the previous screen view, simply press Back.
Press the volume key on the side of the phone to turn on your Nokia 6110's speaker. As soon as you start moving, you will receive audio instructions through speaker, and you can monitor your progress on the onscreen map.
Searching for a nearby location
With your Nokia 6110 Navigator's Sat Nav system you can quickly look up locations for local businesses, attractions, restaurants, car parks, and numerous other "points of interest".
Follow the example above until you're in the Navigate menu. Scroll down to highlight Nearby and press select (Figure 12). You're now presented with a long list of sub categories that can find points of interest local to your current GPS position (Figure 13). Choose whichever option suits your requirements - the procedure is the same as in our example, where we're looking for local restaurants.
To find a local restaurant, scroll down to highlight Eating & Drinking and press OK (Figure 14). Choose the option to search around GPS position and press select (Figure 15). You will be presented with a list of nearby restaurants, bars and so on (with distances listed) (Figure 16). Scroll down to the restaurant that takes your fancy. Press Options, choose Navigate to and press select (Figure 17).
Your route will be calculated within moments, and you will get voice and onscreen instructions to navigate to the location you've chosen (Figure 18).
