Using the Nokia N73's camera

Your Nokia N73 has a very capable camera built into it with features like a macro mode and autofocus. It can shoot still photos at resolutions up to 3.2 megapixels (2048 x 1536).

You start the camera running simply by sliding its lens cover back. The screen will turn into wide format and act as a viewfinder.

Hold the phone longways in your right hand and the navigation key will fall under your right thumb and the shutter button, which is on the edge of the phone, under your right forefinger. When you have finished with the camera slide its lens cover back to close the camera software.

Shooting still images
The camera has autofocus. To use this feature hold the shutter button halfway down and wait while your image focuses, then press it in fully to shoot.

The Active toolbar
There is a column of icons down the right edge of the screen. This is the Active toolbar and it provides access to a lot of the camera’s settings. Scroll through it with the navigation key and click to select what you need. When you are shooting stills the options are:

• Switch between video and stills shooting mode
• choose a preset scene mode (for example for shooting close ups or at night)
• set the flash mode (on, off, automatic and red-eye reduction)
• set the self timer (off, 2, 10 and 20 seconds)
• set up sequence mode (which will automatically capture shots in quick succession)
• change the exposure compensation which will make images lighter or darker
• change the white balance (choosing between different conditions such as sunny or cloudy)
• change the colour tone (sepia, black and white, negative, vivid or normal)
• change the ISO, which affects the light sensitivity of the lens

You may not always want to shoot at the maximum image resolution. To change resolution choose Options with the left Selection key then Settings.

Now click on Image Quality then choose the setting you need with the navigation key, pressing Select when you are done.

Shoot video
To switch between stills and video use the Active toolbar (see above).

Now a new Active toolbar offering fewer settings options is available. To start shooting press the shutter button, to stop press it again or press the left Selection button.

Pause a video by pressing the right Selection button, and resume by pressing it again.

While a video is being captured the bottom left of the screen shows the current time elapsed and the maximum time available for your video.

After shooting a picture or video
When you have taken a picture or video the Active Toolbar shows some new icons. These allow you to delete an image or video if you don’t like it, save it for printing (photos only), or send it to a recipient.

Memory cards
If you use a miniSD card then stills and video can be saved there. To tell the phone where to save choose Options with the left Selection key then Settings. Scroll down to Memory in Use then click the navigation key to switch between saving to N73's internal memory or a miniSD card.
