Total War Battles: Shogun out now on iPhone and iPad
Sega's epic Total War strategy series lands on iOS with Android soon to follow
Sega has just launched the first mobile game based on the hit PC series Total War for the iPhone and iPad, called Total War Battles: Shogun.
Total War Battles: Shogun puts you in the role of a Samurai warlord in medieval Japan. There's a little bit of back story that you're out to avenge your father's death, but it's mostly just about conquering your enemies for wealth and power.
Fans of the previous PC titles will find quite a different experience here as the game has been built from the ground-up for mobile. It's still a strategy game, but the map of feudal Japan is divided up into a grid of hexagonal tiles and the graphics have a stylised, cartoony feel to them, but it looks pretty good.
Gameplay boils down to capturing and holding territories, building bases, managing your resources and training armies of samurai, including spearmen, swordsmen, archers and horsemen - oh, and of course, ninjas.
There are 27 single-player missions with 18 side-quests promising around 15 hours of play-time and that's without delving into the multiplayer which allows two friends to fight each other on the same screen.
You can get Total War Battles: Shogun on iTunes now for £4.99. An Android version is currently in development too and is ‘coming soon'.
