Pandav has spotted iPhones with unusual identifiers in its app usage analytics, suggesting they're iPhone 4G prototypes

Pandav, developer of the iPhone travel app iBart, has revealed that it has spotted device signatures for unknown iPhones in the usage analytics for its app.
The iPhone 3GS carries the identifier ‘2,1’, while Pandav spotted devices running with a ‘3,1’ identifier. To add a bit of weight to these rather limited findings, Pandav says that these signatures derived from the San Francisco Bay Area, where Apple’s headquarters are located.
Short of heading over to the US and waiting for someone to pop out of Apple HQ’s revolving doors and knocking them over the head – in the hope they’ll have an iPhone 4G on them – these revelations don’t tell us much other than that some prototypes of the 4G are already floating about and operational.
However, the fact that they work with Pandav’s iBart demonstrates that next year’s model will be another iterative effort rather than one that throws the previous iPhone models out with the proverbial bathwater.
