TL;DR: What’s The Best Apple Watch Ultra 4 Alternative?
You don’t need to pay the best part of a $1000/£1000 to get the Apple Watch Ultra experience. You can do it for a lot less…
| What you want | My pick | Refurbished from |
|---|---|---|
| The Ultra experience for roughly half the Ultra 4’s launch price | Apple Watch Ultra 2 | $394 |
| A newer Ultra with satellite features and longer rated battery life | Apple Watch Ultra 3 | $534.98 |
| An everyday Apple Watch without the Ultra’s bulk | Apple Watch Series 10 | $222 |
| A lower-cost Series model with current software support | Apple Watch Series 9 | $169 |
| The basics, an always-on screen and current software support | Apple Watch SE 3 | $179.95 |
The Apple Watch Ultra 4 brings some pretty big updates into the mix. But for most people who just want the Ultra experience, you really don’t need to spend $799, or £749 in the UK, to get it.
I’d argue that a refurbished Apple Watch Ultra 3 or refurbished Apple Watch Ultra 2 gets you 70% to 80% of the way there in everyday use. That’s my take on the experience, rather than a scientific comparison of their features.
And they’re hundreds of dollars cheaper. Money you could put towards something else, or simply keep in your bank account.
Against the Ultra 4’s $799 starting price, that’s a saving of $405 or $264.02.
You’ve got to keep how you actually use an Apple Watch in mind. It isn’t like a phone. It lives on your wrist, tracking your workouts, exercise, steps and sleep. A lot of its best work happens without you interacting with it at all.
You don’t need the latest model to get those benefits.
Personally, I use a refurbished Apple Watch Ultra 2. I bought it six months ago, I wear it daily, and it’s been pretty much perfect. It does everything I need, looks great, and cost me less than half the price of a new Ultra.

I turn notifications off because I find them annoying as hell. I want to track my runs, gym sessions, steps and daily exertion. My Ultra 2 handles all of that without becoming another thing I have to spend time managing.
That’s why this article exists. To help you get out of the loop of giving big tech more money every year for a new product that might make very little difference to how you actually use it.
Here are all ten refurbished Apple Watch models I’d look at first.
You don’t have to pay $1,000+ for a new phone. Buying refurbished saves you, on average, 40% to 50%.
Which means you skip the inflationary price hikes, side-step the 2026 memory cost crisis, and still get the flagship performance and specs you want.
Recommended Options For 2026The Best Apple Watch Ultra 4 Alternatives
The refurbished Apple Watch Ultra 2 is my pick for most people. It gives you the titanium Ultra design, current watchOS support and strong battery life for $405 less than the Ultra 4’s $799 launch price. It is also the watch I use every day.
The Three Models I Would Check First
These cover the three main choices: the best all-round Ultra, the newer Ultra option and the cheapest way to get the Ultra design.
Refurbished Apple Watch Ultra 2
This is the watch I use. You get the 49mm titanium case, bright display, Action button, dual-frequency GPS and up to 36 hours of rated battery life. Mine gets charged every other day and has been more than enough for workouts, runs, sleep and everyday tracking. It also supports watchOS 27.
Refurbished Apple Watch Ultra 3
The Ultra 3 gets you closer to the newest hardware with a larger display, satellite features, 5G and up to 42 hours of rated battery life. It currently costs $140.98 more than the Ultra 2, so the question is whether you will actually use those additions.
Refurbished Apple Watch Ultra 1
The original Ultra still gives you the large titanium case, Action button and outdoor-focused design. The catch is watchOS 27 support. It does not get it. Personally, I would pay the extra $116 for the Ultra 2 if the budget allows.
Seven More Refurbished Apple Watches
If you do not need the Ultra’s size or outdoor hardware, these models cover everything from current everyday watches to basic options under $130.
Apple Watch Series 11
A smaller current-generation watch with up to 24 hours of rated battery life and watchOS 27 support.
Apple Watch Series 10
A thin, light Apple Watch with a large display, fast charging and current watchOS 27 support.
Apple Watch Series 9
You get an always-on display, S9 chip, ECG support and watchOS 27 compatibility for less than $200.
Apple Watch SE 3
The SE 3 has an always-on display, fast charging, the S10 chip and current watchOS support.
Apple Watch Series 8
It still covers workouts and everyday tracking, but it does not support watchOS 27.
Apple Watch SE 2
Activity tracking, Apple Pay, heart-rate alerts and safety features in a small and light watch.
Apple Watch Series 7
A large always-on display and fast charging at the lowest price in the current listings.

Buy The Refurbished Apple Watch Ultra 2
It gives you most of what makes the Ultra good, supports watchOS 27 and costs $405 less than the Ultra 4’s launch price. Unless you specifically need satellite features, 5G or the Ultra 3’s extra battery headroom, this is the smarter buy.
Is there still a reason to buy the Ultra 4?

Of course. Its newer health sensing, readiness features and longer battery life can matter if you’ll use them. You also get 50 hours of normal use, with longer workout options for endurance events, and if that’s your thang than the Ultra 4 makes a lot of sense.
You just need to be sure you’ll actually use its new features. It’s an expensive watch, and if those extras aren’t going to make much difference to you, it’s hard to justify spending the extra money.
If those additions solve a problem for you, paying more can make sense.
But I wouldn’t spend the extra just because it’s the latest Ultra. Start with what you need your watch to do, then buy the model that does it at a price you’re happy with.
For me, that’s still the refurbished Ultra 2.
My starting point would be the Ultra 2 for value or the Ultra 3 for its newer hardware. If you don’t need the Ultra design, compare the Series 9 and Series 10 before spending more.
Buy for the way you actually use your watch. That’s where the savings are.
