Samsung's Ativ S Windows Phone 8 handset is now available on O2's network via pre-pay or contract

O2 customers can now get hold of Samsung’s Windows Phone 8 handset, the Ativ S, as part of either pre-pay SIM deals or pay monthly tariffs.

The Ativ S, which is essentially a Samsung Galaxy S3 loaded with Windows Phone 8 instead of Android, was released with much less fanfare than HTC and Nokia’s equivalent models at the end of 2012.

Now, however, O2 is carrying the phone and customers can get it free as part of a 24 month contract from £37 per month with 900 call minutes, unlimited texts and 750MB of mobile data.

At the other end of the deal spectrum you can pay £179.99 for the handset plus £16.50 per month for 50 call minutes, 250 texts and 500MB of mobile data.

O2’s deals can be customised further by selecting low or high data allowances and, of course, there are also 18 month contract options if you prefer.

To get the handset on pre-pay it’ll cost you £399.99 up front, but you'll need to keep your SIM topped up. A range of pre-pay plans means you can get a few extra perks thrown in too.

The Ativ S runs Windows Phone 8 with its colourful Live Tiles and People Hub communications platform, which allows you to call, text, Tweet and access social networking in one place.

You get a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display, an 8-megapixel camera, 16GB of onboard storage together with microSD card support and a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM.
