Apple is said to be already testing the iPhone 6 as well as its accompanying iOS7 software —— no word on a release date just yet, however

Apple’s iPhone 6 and iOS 7 software are already being tested inside the company’s Cupertino HQ, according to reports.

TNW reports that developers have seen references for Apple’s upcoming iOS 7 iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch operating system running on unreleased iPhone 6,1 hardware.

According to the report, all the IP addresses for the test devices are based inside Apple’s Cupertino HQ.

iOS7 is also said to be showing up inside Google Analytics also, fueling speculation that Apple is now in the final stages of development of its next-generation mobile software.

‘This iPhone 6,1 hardware is a step over Apple’s current iPhone 5,1 and iPhone 5,2 iPhone 5 models. A change in the first number of Apple hardware’s numbering sequence typically points to major internal changes for the device,’ reports 9to5Mac.

It has been reported that Apple is working on a new handset that it plans on releasing in mid-2013, a few months earlier than usual. Whether this device will be the iPhone 5S or the iPhone 6 remains to be seen.

Given Apple’s track record, however, the former moniker seems more likely. If true that means we can expect the iPhone 5S in mid-2013 followed by the iPhone 6 in 2014.

No doubt Apple will make users wait until 2014 for any major design changes.

More news as we get it.
