What is Neuralink?

Neuralink is a chip that can be implanted in your head. With a Neuralink chip installed, the user will be able to interact with electronic devices simply by using the power of their mind.

Beyond this, Neuralink has the potential to cure blindness, deafness, and help people regain the use of their legs and arms after serious accidents.

The applications for Neuralink are potentially earth-shaking. Elon Musk says the technology can help prevent or even cure diseases like ALS, Parkinson’s, and even things like depression and anxiety.

Is Neuralink Ready For Humans?

Neuralink hasn’t been tested in humans yet, but the company has permission from the FDA to begin testing Neuralink inside humans later this year. Human trials were meant to start during 2020, but the worldwide pandemic put an end to this. Musk says the first human to have a Neuralink chip installed in them will happen in early 2022.

Neuralink has already been shown working inside both a monkey and a pig. The implant worked as expected. Neuralink even shared a video of the monkey with the Neuralink chipset playing a computer game simply by using its mind.

Does Elon Musk Own Neuralink?

Elon Musk is the co-founder and current owner of Neuralink. Musk founded Neuralink in July 2016 alongside eight partners. These founding partners include Max Hodak, Ben Rapoport, Dongjin Seo, Paul Merolla, Philip Sabes, Tim Gardner, Tim Hanson, and Vanessa Tolosa.

Musk has already secured $158 million in funding, of this total amount, $100 million came from Musk’s own personal finances. As it stands, Neuralink is not yet a publicly-traded company. Although once it has a working prototype and the green light from the FDA, Musk will almost certainly do an IPO on Neuralink.
