Compose your own K800i ringtones with MusicDJ

Chris Leonard

The Sony Ericsson K800i's MusicDJ application lets you compose and edit your own melodies to use as ringtones

MusicDJ is a built-in application for budding DJs to compose their own instrumental tracks from a selection of sampled sounds. The resulting tunes can then be used as ringtones or shared with friends.

Each melody is composed of four types of track – Drums, Basses, Chords and Accents. Each track consists of a number of music blocks, which each contain pre-arranged sounds – Intro, Verse, Chorus and Break. Melodies are composed by adding your selection of music block to each track.

To compose a melody:

  • From the main Menu screen, select Entertainment (Figure 1) and then MusicDJ (Figure 2) .
  • Select a track (one of the four horizontal lines) and then a block (the numbered sections across the top) (Figure 3). Press Insert.
  • Scroll down the list of possible sounds, listen to each one in turn, highlight your chosen sound and press Select (Figure 4).
  • You can then Copy your selection elsewhere on the track.
  • Or you can choose another track/block, and press Insert to choose another sound (Figure 5).
  • When you have finished, press More and select Save Melody (Figure 6 & 7).

To set your melody as a ringtone:

  • On the Menu screen select Settings (Figure 8).
  • On the Sounds & Alerts tab, select Ringtone (Figure 9), then select Ringtones (Figure 10).
  • Scroll down to your melody and press Select (Figure 11).
