Backing up your Motorola KRZR K1
Chris Leonard
You can make sure your Phonebook and datebook entries on your Motorola KRZR are safe by backing them up to a PC or Internet server. You can do this wirelessly using a USB cable, Bluetooth or synchronising with an Internet server using MOTOSYNC
Published on Mar 11, 2007
To back up by USB connection, install your product suite CD-ROM which came with the phone. Then connect your Motorola KRZR to your PC with a mini-USB cable (Available from PC shops) and back up your files on your computer.
Back up via Bluetooth
To back up to a PC using Bluetooth, first make sure you have turned on Bluetooth (See Switching Bluetooth On), and that the phone is visible to other Bluetooth devices. Then make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your PC (Or insert a Bluetooth adapter). Now follow these instructions:
- Choose the Phonebook (Figure 1) or Datebook entry you want to back up to the computer (Figure 2). The press Options and then Send (Figure 3) (Via Bluetooth) (Figure 4).
- Then select the destination device (Figure 5)(e.g. My Computer) and press Select (Figure 6).
Back up using MOTOSYNC
MOTOSYNC is Motorola’s own software for backup up your Motorola KRZR’s Phonebook and datebook entries onto an Internet server (Called the Internet Sync Partner). This works with both SyncML and Mircosoft Exchange 2003 servers.
To synchronise your phone with a SyncML server you need to set up an Internet Sync Partner:
- On the Menu screen, select Connection (Figure 7) and then MOTOSYNC (Figure 8).
- Select Sync (Figure 9) and then [New Entry] (Figure 10).
- Enter your server’s details including its Server URL and Data Path (The destination folder for your files)(Figure 11)
To synchronise files with a selected Partner:
- On the Menu screen select Connection (Figure 7) and then MOTOSYNC. (Figure 8)
- Then select Sync. (Figure 9)
Backing up to a Microsoft Exchange 2003 server
Exchange ActiveSync allows you to use the Internet to synchronise your Phonebook and Datebook entries with an email account on a Microsoft Exchange server.
Before you start you need to know the server details: the email account’s User Name and Password, the Microsoft Exchange Server Name and the User Domain Name. Confirm that Mobility is enabled on the email account and Data Service is activated with the phone service provider.
To synchronise files using Exchange ActiveSync you must set up an ActiveSync Partner:
- On the Menu screen, select Connection (Figure 7) the MOTOSYNC.(Figure 8)
- Select Exchange (Figure 12) and press Options.
- Select Setup (Figure 13) and enter the server details (See above) and the Web Session to use.
You can now schedule your Motorola KRZR to automatically synchronise its files with your Exchange account:
- On the Menu screen select Connection (Figure 7) then MOTOSYNC.(Figure 8)
- Choose Exchange and press Options.(Figure 12)
