A joint event held by Samsung and Barnes & Noble is scheduled for August 20, could we finally see the Galaxy Tab 4 Nook?

Samsung is planning a joint even with Barnes & Noble, the largest book retailer in the US, for later this month. The gathering will take place on August 20 in New York and is heavily rumoured to show off the company’s first joint-venture tablet.

Back in June, the two companies joined forces to develop the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook tablet. The devices will use Samsung hardware alongside a customized version of the Nook software courtesy of Barnes & Noble.

At the original event the companies said the first Galaxy Tab 4 Nook would be available at some point during August 2014. It also confirmed the first in the series of slates would feature a 7in display. It makes sense that the event held in New York’s Union Square on August 20 would be the official launch of the new tablets.

The invitation doesn’t give much information; it just states the date and says, “Join us as the best of both worlds come together”.

Samsung is going to have a busy couple of weeks after this event. The Unpacked smartphone launch will come two weeks later to show off the heavily rumoured Galaxy Note 4 amongst others. Events will be held in Beijing, Berlin and New York.

Barnes & Noble on the other hand seem to be using this partnership to end its time experimenting in hardware design. When the original deal was announced, the company revealed it will continue to stock the Nook GlowLight but will not launch any more products to replace it.

Hardware design will now all be up to Samsung whilst Barnes & Noble begin to focus on the software and the content available. The Nook’s main competition comes in the form of the Amazon Kindle. It makes sense for Barnes & Noble to combine forces with Samsung to try and steal some market share back from the online giant that is Amazon.
