My pick is Visible’s $25 unlimited plan.

It runs on Verizon’s 5G and 4G LTE networks, includes unlimited smartphone data and unlimited hotspot use, has no annual commitment, and the $25 price already includes taxes and carrier fees.

You pay monthly. You can leave whenever you want. And you do not need three relatives on the account to get the advertised price.

For most individual users, that is the best combination of data, price and simplicity available below $35.

Why Visible is my top choice

Visible does not win because it has the lowest number in the table.

There are cheaper introductory and annual rates.

It wins because the plan is easy to live with after the promotion has disappeared and the novelty of switching carriers has worn off.

That matters.

A phone plan should not require a spreadsheet, a calendar reminder and a detailed understanding of promotional billing periods.

1. You get unlimited data for $25

The standard Visible plan includes unlimited smartphone data on Verizon’s 5G and 4G LTE networks.

There is no 10GB, 30GB or 50GB high-speed allowance shown on the plan.

You do not reach a fixed monthly threshold and automatically drop to 512Kbps for the remainder of the billing cycle.

Visible can temporarily reduce your data priority when Verizon’s network is busy. Once the congestion clears, normal performance returns.

That is different from a hard throttle.

With Boost, for example, the $25 plan includes 30GB of premium high-speed data. After 30GB, Boost says speeds may be lowered to 512Kbps.

Tello includes 50GB of high-speed data before throttling.

T-Mobile Connect’s $35 plan gives you 12GB. When you use it, on-network data stops until the next billing period.

Visible’s performance may be less predictable in a crowded area, but you do not have a monthly data meter constantly hanging over you.

2. The $25 price includes taxes and fees

Visible’s price is not $25 plus whatever appears on the final checkout page.

It is $25.

The carrier includes government taxes and provider fees in the plan price.

That sounds like a minor point until you compare it with plans charging:

• Government taxes
• Recovery charges
• Administrative fees
• Activation charges
• Retail setup fees
• SIM charges
• Device connection fees

Several competitors still advertise the plan before these charges are added.

The difference may only be a couple of dollars each month, but the entire reason for buying a budget plan is to keep the bill down.

3. You pay monthly

Mint Mobile and Cricket can beat or match Visible’s effective price, but their best rates commonly require prepaying for several months or an entire year.

• Mint’s lowest long-term Unlimited rate requires advance payment.
• Cricket’s $25 annual Unlimited plan costs $300 upfront and is restricted to eligible single-line customers bringing their own compatible phone.

Visible charges $25 every month.

You do not need to hand over $300 before discovering that reception disappears inside your office.

If the service does not suit you, leave.

4. No contract or long-term rate commitment

Visible is prepaid and does not have an annual service contract.

Pay for the next month, use the service and continue if you are happy.

Financing a phone is separate. If you buy a device on finance, leaving Visible does not erase the remaining device balance.

But if you bring an unlocked phone you already own, there is little holding you in place.

That makes Visible a particularly good match for refurbished phones. Buy an unlocked device outright, add a $25 plan and avoid being trapped in a three-year carrier deal built around monthly device credits.

5. Unlimited hotspot data is included

Visible includes unlimited mobile hotspot use at speeds up to 5Mbps.

Five megabits per second is not fast, but it is enough for:

• Email
• Web browsing
• Messaging
• Google Docs
• Music streaming
• Basic laptop work
• Emergency internet access
• Lower-resolution video

More importantly, it is not restricted to 5GB or 10GB a month.

You can continue using it throughout the billing cycle.

Most competing plans below $35 either impose a fixed hotspot allowance, draw hotspot use from the phone’s data allowance or do not include it at all.

6. It uses Verizon’s network

Visible is owned by Verizon and uses its nationwide 5G and 4G LTE networks.

That does not mean the standard Visible plan receives identical treatment to an expensive Verizon postpaid plan. Visible data can be placed behind higher-priority traffic during congestion.

Coverage should nevertheless be broadly similar.

If Verizon works well at your home, workplace and usual destinations, Visible is worth testing.

The reverse is also true. If Verizon coverage is poor in your area, Visible will not fix it through the power of lower pricing.

7. The normal price does not require Auto Pay

• Boost’s $25 rate includes a $5 Auto Pay discount. Turn off Auto Pay and the price becomes $30.
• Cricket’s $35 Select Unlimited price also relies on Auto Pay, with the first month costing $40.
• T-Mobile and Verizon use Auto Pay discounts on several plans.

Visible’s standard $25 price does not require Auto Pay.

You can still use automatic payments for convenience, but the plan does not become more expensive simply because you prefer paying manually.

Visible versus Visible+: should you spend the full $35?

The standard Visible plan is my overall winner below $35.

However, if your budget includes plans priced at exactly $35, Visible+ is better.

And if you run an Apple Watch LTE and want your phone and Apple Watch on the same plan, Visible+ Pro is simplest and cheapest.

Premium data is the main reason to upgrade.

The standard plan may slow when Verizon’s network is congested. Visible+ includes unlimited premium data, so your connection is not reduced merely because lower-priority traffic is being managed.

If this is your main phone and you live in a busy city, I would seriously consider spending the extra $10.

If you spend much of your time on Wi-Fi and mainly use maps, messages, music and social media, the $25 plan is enough.

US Mobile: the strongest alternative

US Mobile is the carrier I would look at if Visible did not work in my area.

Its Unlimited Starter plan costs around $22.50 a month, with taxes and fees included.

The plan includes:

• Unlimited calls and texts
• Unlimited smartphone data
• 20GB of hotspot data
• Support for multiple underlying networks
• No contract
• Network switching
• International features depending on billing and network

US Mobile can run through different major network partners, identified by the company as Warp, Dark Star and Light Speed.

This means you are not stuck with a Verizon-based option if another network performs better where you live.

Data rules vary by network. US Mobile currently says Unlimited Starter provides unlimited high-speed data on Dark Star and 70GB on other available networks.

That is an excellent deal.

Why Visible still wins for simplicity

US Mobile is flexible, but that flexibility adds decisions.

You need to consider:

• Which underlying network to choose
• How much high-speed data applies to that network
• Whether network switching costs extra
• Whether you want a second network
• Which international features your version includes

Visible gives you Verizon coverage, unlimited data and unlimited 5Mbps hotspot use for $25.

US Mobile gives more choice and a larger full-speed hotspot allowance. Visible is easier to understand.

• Choose US Mobile if: you want network choice or a 20GB high-speed hotspot allowance.
• Choose Visible if: Verizon works well and you want the least complicated unlimited plan.

Tello Unlimited: 50GB for $25

Tello’s Unlimited plan costs $25 a month and uses T-Mobile’s network.

It includes:

• Unlimited calls and texts
• 50GB of high-speed data
• Continued data at reduced speeds after 50GB
• No annual contract
• No early termination fee
• Provider fees included
• Government taxes that vary by location

Fifty gigabytes is plenty for most people.

You would need to use around 1.6GB every day to reach the limit across a 30-day month.

That covers a lot of browsing, social media, music and video. Heavy mobile video streamers and hotspot users could still reach it.

Why Visible beats Tello

Visible does not publish a comparable fixed high-speed data allowance on its standard plan.

Its data can slow during congestion, but it does not automatically throttle after 50GB.

Visible also includes taxes and fees, removing another variable from the bill.

• Choose Tello if: T-Mobile coverage is better in your area and you normally use less than 50GB.
• Choose Visible if: you want unlimited usage without a fixed monthly high-speed threshold.

Boost Mobile Unlimited: $25 with a 30GB catch

Boost Mobile’s Unlimited plan costs $25 a month with Auto Pay.

New customers may receive a discounted introductory period before the normal price begins.

It includes:

• Unlimited texts
• Unlimited smartphone data
• 30GB of premium high-speed data
• No service contract
• A locked $25 rate while eligibility is maintained

After 30GB, Boost says speeds may be reduced to 512Kbps.

That is enough for messaging, light browsing and basic audio. It will feel very slow for video, app downloads and image-heavy websites.

Boost also adds taxes and fees, while the $25 price relies on Auto Pay.

Why Visible beats Boost

Visible provides a cleaner $25 price with taxes included, no Auto Pay requirement and no published 30GB hard slowdown point.

Boost’s locked rate is appealing, especially if your monthly data use stays below 30GB.

For a heavy data user, Visible is the safer choice.

Mint Mobile Unlimited: cheap, but you pay ahead

Mint Mobile runs on T-Mobile’s network.

Its Unlimited plan can cost around $30 a month when you purchase a longer service term upfront. Introductory promotions may cut the first term further.

Current versions of Mint Unlimited include:

• Unlimited calls and texts
• Unlimited smartphone data
• 20GB of hotspot data
• T-Mobile 5G and LTE coverage
• Possible lower priority after heavy use
• Free calls to selected countries
• No traditional service contract

Mint has moved away from the old system where Unlimited users were automatically reduced to very slow data after 40GB. Data can still receive lower priority during congestion, particularly after heavy use.

The problem with Mint’s pricing

Mint’s cheapest rate requires advance payment.

Depending on the chosen term, you may need to buy three, six or 12 months in one transaction.

Taxes and fees are added.

The annual rate can be excellent, but annual prepayment is still a financial commitment even if the carrier avoids calling it a contract.

You have paid for the service. Leaving halfway through does not magically put the unused money back into your bank account.

Why Visible beats Mint

Visible costs $25 on normal monthly billing and includes taxes and fees.

Mint can provide a larger high-speed hotspot allowance and may be better in areas where T-Mobile dominates. But Visible is easier to try, easier to leave and cheaper without an annual payment.

Cricket Wireless: strong value if you will pay annually

Cricket uses AT&T’s network.

Its annual Unlimited plan costs $300 upfront, equivalent to $25 a month.

It includes:

• Unlimited smartphone data
• AT&T 5G coverage
• Calls and texts
• Taxes included
• Canada and Mexico usage
• International texting
• No annual service contract beyond the prepaid term

The wording is slightly amusing. You may not have signed an annual contract, but you have paid for an entire year.

The annual plan also has restrictions:

• New single-line accounts
• Bring your own compatible phone
• Full $300 payment upfront
• No hotspot add-on
• No normal mid-term cancellation or plan change
• No partial refund for unused service

Cricket may reduce data priority when AT&T’s network is congested.

Why Visible beats Cricket

Visible provides unlimited hotspot use and monthly billing.

Cricket is a good AT&T-based alternative if coverage is strong and you are happy paying $300 upfront.

But it is not the least-hassle option.

Cricket Select Unlimited: $35 with Auto Pay

Cricket also has a monthly Select Unlimited plan costing $35 with Auto Pay.

The first month costs $40, and the $5 Auto Pay credit begins with the second service charge.

It includes unlimited data on AT&T’s network, but Cricket may reduce speeds during congestion.

Hotspot use is not included. A 10GB hotspot add-on costs $10.

At that point, you are paying $45.

Visible+ costs $35 with unlimited premium smartphone data and an unlimited 10Mbps hotspot. It is a much stronger plan if Verizon coverage works for you.

T-Mobile: not competitive below $35

T-Mobile’s main prepaid Unlimited plan starts at $45 with Auto Pay.

Below $35, the relevant option is Connect by T-Mobile.

Connect plans currently include:

• $15 for 5GB
• $25 for 8GB
• $35 for 12GB

Taxes and fees are extra.

The data is not unlimited. Once you use the allowance, on-network mobile data stops until the next billing period.

Hotspot use is allowed, but it comes from the same data allowance.

The $35 Connect plan gives you 12GB. Visible gives you unlimited data and unlimited hotspot use for $10 less.

T-Mobile may still be the right carrier if its coverage and speeds are far better in your area. On pure value, however, it is nowhere near Visible.

Verizon: you pay more to buy directly

Verizon’s main postpaid Simplicity plan has a normal price of $45 a month with Auto Pay, plus taxes and fees.

Eligible switchers may receive a temporary discount that lowers it to $30.

The standard $45 plan includes premium data, 5G Ultra Wideband, satellite texting and 10GB of hotspot data.

Verizon Prepaid’s 15GB plan starts at $45 and can fall to $35 with Auto Pay after the first month. Taxes and fees may apply.

Visible costs $25, uses Verizon’s network and provides unlimited smartphone and hotspot data.

Verizon offers better support, physical stores, stronger phone promotions and more account features. Visible offers the lower bill.

AT&T: unlimited data exceeds the budget

AT&T’s postpaid and standard prepaid Unlimited plans cost more than $35 for one line.

You can find limited-data AT&T Prepaid plans within this budget, but they do not beat Visible on the amount of data included.

If you want unlimited AT&T network access for $35 or less, Cricket’s monthly or annual plans are the more relevant options.

Again, coverage comes first. Someone living in a strong AT&T area with weak Verizon service should not choose Visible purely because it wins a pricing table.

But if all three major networks work properly where you live, Visible provides far more data for the money.

What does “unlimited data” actually mean?

Unlimited does not mean every carrier gives you permanently uncapped, maximum-speed data.

There are three common systems.

Priority reduction during congestion

Your data continues, but customers with higher network priority may receive better performance while a tower is busy.

Visible’s standard plan and several MVNO plans work this way.

The slowdown is temporary and linked to network demand.

A fixed high-speed allowance followed by throttling

You receive a set amount of high-speed data. Once used, your connection drops to a fixed lower speed for the rest of the month.

Examples include:

• Boost: 30GB, then speeds may fall to 512Kbps
• Tello: 50GB, then throttled

The connection remains active, so carriers can legally call it unlimited. Whether 512Kbps feels meaningfully unlimited is another question.

A hard data allowance

Once you use the included data, service stops until the next billing cycle or you buy more.

T-Mobile Connect works this way.

That is not an unlimited plan at all. It is simply a fixed-data plan.

Which plan gives you the most genuinely usable data?

Visible wins for unrestricted monthly quantity.

There is no listed monthly smartphone-data allowance and no automatic 30GB or 50GB throttle.

US Mobile can be a close competitor, especially on its Dark Star network where its Starter plan is advertised with unlimited high-speed data.

Visible wins overall because its terms are easier to understand and its hotspot is unlimited.

The trade-off is priority. Standard Visible data may slow when Verizon’s network is congested.

If congestion is common in your area, Visible+ at $35 is the better purchase because it includes unlimited premium data.

Which plan is cheapest without annual prepayment?

For unlimited service with a normal monthly payment:

• US Mobile Unlimited Starter: around $22.50
• Visible: $25
• Tello Unlimited: $25
• Boost Unlimited: $25 with Auto Pay
• Mint Unlimited: term and renewal price vary

Visible is not always the lowest by one or two dollars.

It is the cleanest deal once taxes, Auto Pay, hotspot use and high-speed data rules are included.

That is more important than winning the headline-price contest.

Which carrier is easiest to live with?

Visible.

• You live in a congested area
