Fans of the original Ouya console are in for a treat next year as the company’s founder has revealed plans for a successor model, Ouya 2.0.
Speaking to Shacknews, Julie Uhrman said 2014 will see the arrival of Ouya 2.0 with a new controller design.
“Our plan is to have Ouya 2.0 sometime next year, we haven’t finalised the date of that.” The company has previously mentioned its plans to release new models annually.
“For the hardware, we are looking at different chips,” said Uhrman. The original Ouya was criticised for not being powerful enough, so it’s thought a successor model will be much beefier in the processor department.
Uhrman also indicated a new controller would address user concerns with the original, “fixing the triggers, fixing the thumbsticks.”
“And if that doesn’t work, we’ll iterate it again and if we decide that’s not the right path, we’ll change it.” Clearly the company is determined to generate a hit one way or the other.
