Creators Use iPhone More Than Any Other Brand, Here’s Why…

The short answer as to why most professional creators use iPhones is simple: iPhones are the best when it comes to video and for playing nice with social media apps like Instagram.

Apple’s been courting creators since it first issued the Pro Max models, and it’s latest Pro Max model is the perfect creator’s tool.

It has invested billions in its camera tech in a bid to make its high-end flagship models DSLR killers.

And you know what? It worked: sales of DSLR camera have been on the decline for years, and Apple is likely one of the main reasons for this.

DSLR shipments fell by around 40% between 2013 and 2023. Mirrorless systems gained ground, rising from 4.1 to 4.9 million in 2023. Interchangeable-lens cameras have since stabilized at around 6 million units a year.

That’s why more than a lot of YouTube and Instagram creators shoot exclusively with iPhone.

They also likely edit their content on Mac computers too, using Logic Pro or any of the other third-party video editing suites that’ll run on Mac.

Here’s a real-world example of how one creator uses iPhone to produce their content.

I also use my iPhone (Pro model) to record my videos and I find it much more convenient than using my mirorrless camera.

App: I use Filmic pro with the Filmic remote app installed on a tablet. That serves as a control monitor and I also start the recording from there. It’s much better than always running to the camera to check on the image or start and stop the recording.

Also, Filmic records in MP4 which is much easier to handle when you want to edit it. In case you use the native iPhone app change your recording settings to most compatible, so you’ll get MP4s and not MOV files. It’s a nightmare to work with big MOV files – at least on Premiere Pro.

• Set up: I use a green screen with strong studio lights, lowest ISO possible to avoid noise. Also I don’t record in 4K as Youtube doesn’t really require 4K footage for my style of vlogging.
• Sound: I use an external Sennheiser lavaier mic to record the sound and I sync it in post. If you can, I’d recommend plugging the mic directly in your phone to save time and a lot of headache. I just had this gear, so i went with it. (In case you record with an external mic and sync it in post, don’t forget to clap:)

And always check the battery level. Last time the recorder died mid recording, and I only noticed 1,5 hours later – which meant I had to redo the whole stuff, because I didn’t have sound. Not fun)

You can literally pick up an iPhone 15 Pro Max for less than a standard iPhone 17 Air.

And the camera inside a two-year-old iPhone 15 Pro Max runs rings around the utterly sub-par one inside the iPhone 17 Air, and it is significantly better than the one inside the standard iPhone 17 too.

What I’m trying to say is this: you’ve got options inside Apple’s ecosystem even if you’re on a show-string budget.
