Nokia N8 vs iPhone 4
We take a look at two of the biggest devices – the Nokia N8 and the iPhone 4 – to be hitting the UK in the next few weeks. But which is worth your hard earned cash?

Features/Quirks
The Nokia N8 features an HDMI port and Dolby Digital Plus surround stereo, Xenon Flash, 12 megapixel camera, Ovi Services, 48GB of storage with a micro SD card, 720p video and it comes in multiple colours.
The iPhone however pack in Retina Display technology, applications, glass casing, three-axis gyro sensor, 326ppi display, games, apps folders, 64GB of storage and the impressive, power-saving, Apple A4 Processor, which has more than proved its worth in the iPad.
Verdict: iPhone 4
Applications
Nokia has its Ovi Store, which is stocked full of a lot of interesting, useful and innovative services, widgets, games and apps – such as Ovi Maps.
And, depending on the success of the Nokia N8, it is likely to expand dramatically, which is always a good thing – especially, if Nokia want to compete with the Apple on the apps front…
Apple is to apps what Google is to search and, for this reason, no one – no, not even Android – can compete with the iPhone 4 on this front. Sure, you can argue all you like, but you’ll be wrong.
Applications on the iPhone are far superior than those found on both Android, RIM, Windows and Symbian – and this is only going to increase following the release of the iPhone 4.
Verdict: iPhone 4
Price
Play.com have the Nokia N8 priced – SIM-free – at £399.99, which is, basically, £100 cheaper than the cheapest iPhone 4.
In terms of contracts, we’d speculate that users will be able to pick up the Nokia N8 for free on 18-24 month contracts with a £30 or above monthly fee.
The iPhone, predictably, is insanely expensive and users wishing to pick up the iPhone 4 16GB will have to hand over £499 for the privilege – and if that wasn’t enough, the 32GB one will cost a whopping £599.
Contracts aren’t much better, either, as users will have to pay upwards of £200 for the handset and then their monthly fee over periods of 18 to 24 months. In short, the iPhone is expensive and, predictably, so are its tariffs!
Verdict: Nokia N8
Overall verdict?
The iPhone 4 is victor. But don’t be disheartened Nokia lovers, the Nokia N8 looks like a fantastic device and the Symbian^3 OS, if initial reports are to be believed, at least, is apparently very impressive.
Unfortunately, the Nokia N8 can’t beat the iPhone 4 on quality, applications, OS and general design – but at least it put up a fight, hey?
