Sony Ericsson is aiming at phone fashionistas with the newly announced Z555, a clamshell mobile with a diamond patterned reflective finish and hidden screen on the front panel.
The Z555, available in Diamond Black and Dusted Rose finishes, features Sony Ericsson’s Gesture Control technology that allows users to silence a ringing phone or switch the onboard alarm clock into snooze mode with a wave of the hand.
Beneath its stylish skin, the Z555 features a low-key spec list for a Sony Ericsson phone, although it does have a music player and FM radio, plus a rather basic 1.3-megapixel camera. It doesn’t feature 3G connectivity, instead making do with tri-band GPRS/EDGE.
The Z555 does support stereo Bluetooth, and can be used in USB mass storage mode. The phone’s internal memory is just 12MB, although optional Memory Stick Micro (M2) cards are supported. Email and instant messaging are included, while the Z555 also supports RSS feeds and has a photo blogging option that’s now common on new Sony Ericsson cameraphones.
The Z555 measures in at 95(h) x 49(w) x 16.5(d)mm and weighs 95g. Its internal display is a 262K-colour TFT with 176×220 pixels resolution, while the external display – which only becomes visible when a call comes in or the phone is activated – is a mono OLED 128x 36 pixel panel. The Z555 offers talktime of up to 8.4 hours or up to 360 hours of standby power.
The Z555 will be available in the first quarter of 2008 with price details and network availability still to be confirmed.
