Xiaomi is back with another flagship and, like its predecessor’s, the Xiaomi Mi 6 is packing some rather serious specs and hardware.
Importantly, though, Xiaomi has kept the price nice and low, meaning users that go the Xiaomi route are getting excellent value for money.
We’ve known this handset was coming for a while. Xiaomi decided to give MWC a miss this year, giving LG and Samsung plenty of room to announce their handsets, in order to get a clearer run at the market.
This is a wise move, as the launch of the Xiaomi Mi 6 is essentially the most exciting thing that has happened since MWC. Headlines are assured. And headlines are great because it’s like free advertising for Xiaomi and this helps it sell phones.
So what’s the crack with the new Xiaomi Mi 6? How much of an upgrade is it on the outgoing Xiaomi Mi 5? Let’s have a look at six, core aspects of the Xiaomi Mi 6 to find out.
Xiaomi Mi 6: Design – Goodbye, Headphone Jack
It’s a good looking device, to be sure. But that’s to be expected from Xiaomi. The company’s designers are very talented and have consistently produced eye-catching, premium designs during the past few years.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 is no exception with its smooth styling, iPhone-like appearance and super-slim bezels. There is a slight edge to the display, an effect Xiaomi said it achieved by using “four-sided 3D glass” – and, no, we don’t know what that is either.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 features dual speakers for stereo audio and there is even a ceramic model available for those that don’t mind paying a little extra and want something rather unique (the ceramic model will retail for $435 vs $360 for the standard model).
It doesn’t feature a headphone jack, though, which is rather disappointing. The display is a 5.5in setup and the overall shape, weight and gait of the handset should be very similar to Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus.
Xiaomi Mi 6: Specs
As per usual, the specs for the Xiaomi Mi 6 are very impressive indeed. You have two options when buying this handset. Both of which are detailed below in the table:
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor
- 4GB/6GB RAM, 64GB/128GB onboard storage
- 5.15-inch full-HD display (1,920 x 1,080 pixels)
- 3,350mAH battery
- Rear 12-megapixel dual-cameras
Xiaomi has included a big battery – 3350mAh –, improvements to Wi-Fi (2.2 dual Wi-Fi technology), a VERY impressive camera setup, 6GB of RAM and base storage options of 64GB.
For me personally, those specs read like a description of the perfect phone. It has everything the most up to date Android flagships have and a bit more besides.
And ALL OF THIS will cost you less than half the price of a Samsung Galaxy S8.
Xiaomi Mi 6: Camera
The camera, aside from the gross specs of this device, is easily the most impressive aspect of it; you’re looking at a setup very similar to Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus with a 12MP wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens which, when combined, should produce some rather epic shots.
Other notable features of the camera are OIS as standard, 10x digital zoom, 2x lossless zoom and a raft of additional software features that could, if executed well, make the Xiaomi Mi 6’s camera one of the best in the business.
I cannot wait to test this bad boy out!
Xiaomi Mi 6: Price
This phone is INSANELY cheap: $360 for the 64GB model or $420 for the 128GB version. Fancy going ceramic? That’ll set you back $435.
Yep. That is an insane price for a phone of this quality. In a world of $1000 flagship phones, I can see Xiaomi making a lot of friends in the 2017.
Xiaomi Mi 6: Software
One downside to the Xiaomi Mi 6 is that it is NOT running the latest version of Android. The Xiaomi Mi 6 will run Android 6.0 with the company’s MIUI layered on top.
Xiaomi Mi 6: Where Can You ACTUALLY Buy One?

Everybody knows Xiaomi. The Chinese tech company has made a huge name for itself in recent years by creating stunning Android phones with killer specs and releasing them for around half the price of an iPhone.
Often referred to as The Apple of China, Xiaomi has developed fast since it first entered the fray – it now makes a plethora of products, including hybrid laptops and stunning HDTVs.
But most know Xiaomi for its Mi series Android phones. The Xiaomi Mi 4 and Xiaomi Mi 5 secured the company a lot of friends by taking the specs found in the latest Samsung and Apple phones, placing them in a beautifully designed phone, and then selling them for next to nothing.
Xiaomi products are now easier to buy as well, thanks to retailers like GearBest, who has large depots in the US and Europe. This means nowadays punters in the US and UK can buy Xiaomi phones. And this is great news for those looking for value for money.
Xiaomi Mi 6 – 2017’s Incoming Flagship
Xiaomi will apparently announce the Xiaomi Mi 6 on April 11.
There is already a lot of interest and hype around this handset. For obvious reasons. But now we’ve got our first look at the Xiaomi Mi 6 and Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus’ spec sheet.
So what’s the craic this time around?
Xiaomi Mi 6 Specs & Hardware

- Camera: 19MP Sony IMX400 (1/2.3in lens)
- RAM: 4GB/6GB
- Storage: 32/64/128GB

Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus Specs & Hardware

The one odd thing out of all these specs is that the Plus model is running Android N, while the standard Mi 6 is running Android 6. I don’t get why this would be the case?
Everything else looks very tasty though. Especially on the Plus model which has a brilliant, dual-lens camera, a huge battery and 6GB of RAM.
We’ll keep you posted as more updates land.
