We reported on the leaked information regarding the existence of the BlackBerry Storm 9570 a few weeks back – the device was linked with Verizon in the States
Then, to everyone’s surprise, Verizon stated that it wouldn’t be carrying the device. But that’s not all. According to reports, RIM has apparently pulled the plug on the entire project.
BBLeaks, whose source said the following, broke the story:
“Thank you for your hard work and diligence in preparing your application to support the upcoming hardware refresh of the BlackBerry Storm2 smartphone (model number 9570, codename R027). Regrettably, RIM has decided not to pursue this device further and has ended the program.”
As you can see it’s not looking good for the Storm 2 refresh, but does this spell the end for the Storm series?
Possibly. But it’s not all doom-and-gloom, the source also went onto tell BBLeaks that RIM will be pushing out BlackBerry 6 to more and more handsets – BlackBerry Bold 9650 and the BlackBerry Curve 9330 – very soon.
Maybe RIM is focusing its attention on its new QNX-based OS, which it has said will eventually take over from the BlackBerry OS. It’s definitely better for developers and, by this logic, consumers eventually, too. We just hope RIM doesn’t take too long to turn it around.
