A new report by ComScore has shown huge increases in mobile data usage in Japan following the earthquake and tsunami on March 11.

Many landlines and PC internet connections were understandably affected by the quake forcing many people to confirm their safety via social networks.

ComScore claims there were significant rises in mobile data usage, relative to internet traffic from computers, in Japan following the earthquake – a trend that continued for two days after the quake.

Japan, according to comScore, has one of the highest rates of data consumption in the world – 75 percent of mobile phone customers using their phone to consume media.
