Setting up email on the iPad 2 is so simple, you can’t possibly mess it up.

But if you’ve never used an iPad before, you’d best follow this guide – don’t worry, it’s not complicated.

Follow this step-by-step guide to learn how to configure Exchange, Gmail, MobileMe, POP3 and IMAP email on your iPad 2.

Exchange Email

  • Tap settings
  • Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  • Select Add Account
  • Select Microsoft Exchange
  • Enter your Email address, Domain, Username, Password and a description that you wish to call your account (such as work)
  • If required, enter the Server name
  • Decide what you want to sync – Mail, Contacts and/or Calendars
  • Your account will now be configured

Gmail/Yahoo Mail/AOL

  • Tap settings
  • Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  • Select Add Account
  • Select Gmail, Yahoo Mail or AOL
  • Enter your Name, Email address, Password and Description (ie., personal account)
  • If your account is found, you’ll be ready to send and receive emails right away

MobileMe

  • First you’ll need to set up a MobileMe account. Head to the MobileMe website to do this.
  • Once you’ve set up a MobileMe account, you’ll need to set it up on your iPad 2. To do this, tap settings from the home screen
  • Head to Mail, Contacts, Calendars and then add account
  • Select MobileMe from the type of account
  • Enter your account information (name, username, password and account description). Tap save
  • You can then select what you’d like to sync using your MobileMe account
  • You’ll need to activate the ‘Find my phone’ feature in the Mail, Contacts, Calendars settings if you want to be able to find your phone when it’s lost or stolen. From here, head to Fetch New Data and ensure it’s turned on
  • If you already have contacts and calendars saved on your iPad 2, you can merge these with the MobileMe account – you’ll be asked if you’d like to do this when you set the account up.

If you have any other kind of email to set up on your device, select Other from the Add Account settings menu and follow the same instructions noted above for Gmail/Yahoo Mail/AOL, but be sure to input your incoming and outgoing email server info.

How to set up a sync schedule for your email
Once you’ve set up your email accounts, you can decide how often you want them to sync. To do this, select the email account you want to set up a synching schedule for under Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data. You can change the Mail Days to Sync and Mail Folders to push from the bottom of the section.
