EE has announced the arrival of its “best value” 4G plans, which it describes as the UK’s “most affordable” 4G pay monthly plans.
EE is introducing a range of entry-level 4G 24-month handset plans with download speeds of up to 30mbps and average speeds of 12-15mbps. These plans will start from £18.99 per month with a 4G capable handset bundled-in.
EE 4G comes to 14 more UK towns and cities
EE, the UK’s most advanced digital communications company, today announced that 4G is available to consumers and businesses in 14 more towns across the UK.
Today, 4GEE is being switched on in Benfleet, Caerphilly, Caldicot, Canvey Island, Carlisle, Chepstow, Cwmbran, Grays, Harlow, Hatfield, Kenilworth, Rayleigh, Southport and Worksop as the rapid roll out of the UK’s first 4G network continues.
“One year on from our launch we are bringing 4G to even more places, making the UK’s fastest mobile network available to even more people. We continue to grow our 4G coverage all around the country, and the new range of plans gives consumers and businesses more flexibility and choice in how they access superfast mobile,” said EE CEO Olaf Swantee.
CCS Insight analyst, Kester Mann, said, “In our view, EE’s move is a pre-emptive strike against 3, which intends to launch its 4G network in December 2013 with no extra charge. While EE is maintaining a small premium for 4G, it is clearly looking to broaden its target market with more affordable tariffs.”
“The price differential between 3G and 4G access will narrow to just £2 per month, thereby offering greater incentive for customers to upgrade to EE.”
Mann also added that EE’s move will “force Vodafone and O2 to reassess their 4G pricing strategy.”
In addition to the low-cost 4G packages, EE has also announced its “4GEE Extra” plans, “4GEE mobile broadband” plans and the UK’s first pay-as-you-go 4G plans. The company also revealed it is trialling 300mbps 4G networking.
For the pay-as-you-go tariffs, EE said that all its current 4G-capable handsets will be available on pre-pay plans. There’s also an incentive thrown in, “From launch until 31st January 2014, every customer who buys a 4GEE pay as you go handset from an EE shop or ee.co.uk will receive an additional, one off, 10GB of mobile data, completely free, to get them started.”
Options will include a selection of “30 day bundles” ranging from 100MB to 10GB of data with text and call options. Data bundles of 2GB or more will use EE’s fastest 4G speeds.
“EE will also launch a Christmas pay as you go promotion. Until 31st January, all pay as you go customers on EE can receive 2014 free minutes, to use throughout the whole of 2014,” said the company, in a press statement.
The newly announced 4GEE Extra scheme is for users who want “the ultimate 4G smartphone package”, with a range of 24-month handset plans from £26.99 per month with unlimited calls and texts. Perks of these packages include:
- The world’s fastest 4G speeds
- The biggest UK 4G mobile data allowances
- Inclusive roaming calls and texts in 30 international destinations incl. USA & Australia
- Superfast support with fast track customer service
