Alcatel has announced a number of new handsets forming the POP family of affordable Android smartphones.
The Alcatel POP C9 is a 5.5-inch display and aims to bring a larger screen with quad-core power at a more affordable price than other manufacturers.
The screens resolution is looking a little sheepish, however, at 520 x 960 pixels, but the internal hardware of the handset is quite impressive. There’s a 1.3GHz quad-core chip, a 2500mAh battery, 1GB of RAM and 4GB of onboard storage. You also get microSD support for up to 32GB cards.
Out of the box the handset will run with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean which is becoming outdated fast. Camera wise there’s an 8MP auto-focus rear camera which can capture 1080p video, while on the front is a 2MP secondary.
The POP C9 is a plastic device and will come in Cherry Red, Full White, Bluish Black, Hot Pink and Fresh Turquoise.
Alcatel is yet to mention prices and availability is unspecified at this point. The handset is very mid-range so we can imagine a quite affordable price for this quad-core Android smartphone.
