Samsung has released the solar powered Guru E1107 in India priced at Rs. 2799, which is about £36.
The handset features a teensy 1.52-inch 128×128 screen, and comes with a whopping 1MB of internal memory.
Clearly Samsung has kept this one simple, with an FM Radio and MP3 ringtones as the highlights of the spec list.
The device’s solar credentials aren’t all that hot either; with one hour of charging providing enough juice for just 5-10 minutes talk time.
Still, it might be useful in a squeeze or in remote areas where eking out the battery life could be essential. However, with such low performance the main source of charge for the Solar Guru is clearly still a mains source.
Techtree.com report that the handset following this launch, the handset will be available in Southeast Asia, Southwest Asia, Latin America, and yes, Europe too.
Samsung’s Blue Earth handset, which has been nicknamed the Pebble, was scheduled for the first half of 2009 and that window is closing in pretty fast so we’d expect to hear something from Samsung soon.
