UK mobile users will soon be able to get their fingers on Samsung’s new touchscreen-operated F490 mobile, aslimline 5-megapixel camera-equipped handset that boasts a 3.2-inch display, and has a distinctly iPhone-style look about it.
Set to hit stores in mid-February, the Samsung F490 is a 3G HSDPA enabled handset that’s capable of downloading content and surfing the internet at speeds of up to 3.6Mbps. The F490 features Samsung’s "Croix UI" touchscreen user-interface that enables users to operate features by tapping and dragging on the display, with haptic feedback that gives a slight vibration when you tap a command onscreen.
The large 262,000-colour screen is designed to be used in widescreen 16:9 format as well as in standard mobile phone mode, and supports all the usual high speed 3G downloading, streaming and video calling functionality. It has a full web browser onboard, too, which can be viewed widescreen. The F490 also comes with fast access to Google Search among its apps.
The F490 has fully-featured music and video players onboard, and is supplied with 130MB of internal memory plusMicroSD card support. A standard 3.5mm audio jack has been included to plug in headphones, while the F490 also is equipped with stereo Bluetooth and USB 2.0 connectivity
Samsung’s F490 is also one of the slimmest touchscreen handsets around, measuring 11.8mm thin, 115mm high and 53.5mm wide, and weighs in at a respectable 102g.
