My Starbucks review

Spread the love

Few things in life are as awkward as that moment when you’re stood in the queue at your local coffee house and you realise that you’re next in line and you’ve still not decided whether to go with a boring espresso or an adventurous latte.

Thankfully with My Starbucks you can now dispel these beverage-related nightmares. This application allows you to concoct your drink selection before you’ve even set foot in your local branch; in fact, it even comes equipped with the tools to help you find the nearest Starbucks in the first place, via some neat integration with Google Maps.

My Starbucks is essentially an interactive ordering form which allows you to create your ideal drink without being rushed or intimidated by overbearing ‘Baristas’ (apparently that’s what the staff at this multinational coffee house are known as these days).

The app presents a list of variables which you can pick from to craft the ideal brew. These include the size of the drink (Grande, Venti, tall, kids, etc), the type of milk used (organic, whole, non-fat, etc) and the actual content of the cup itself (espresso, cappuccino, mocha, etc).

Because the app uses the same terminology that is employed by Starbucks personnel, there’s no chance of you giving a duff order. Once you’re happy with the selection you can even give it a name and save it as a favourite. When you eventually get to you local branch, you merely recite the order (or, if you’re especially brave and trusting, hand over your iPhone) and bob’s your uncle.

The usefulness of My Starbucks doesn’t end there, however. The app comes complete with ‘Featured’ selections too, for those moments when you’re stuck for inspiration and need a helping hand with your choice.

It’s also possible to use the application to create multiple orders, for when you’re with friends or family. Again, it’s at times like this where My Starbucks effectively pays for itself as it largely removes the headaches caused by trying to remember several drinks at once.

To round it all off the app also links to Starbucks’ own website, where you can learn about the nutritional value of your upcoming beverage – should that be a pressing concern (if it is, then we’d recommend you stick to mineral water from now on).

The appeal of My Starbucks is obviously going to be determined by how much of a caffeine fiend you are; if you swear by a good old pot of English tea then this is unlikely to get your pulse racing.

Conversely, those of you that haunt your local branch on a regular basis might scoff at the (current) £1.79 price tag; if you’re a keen coffee drinker then chances are you already have your preferred choice consigned to memory, making this somewhat redundant.

Whether or not My Starbucks represents a worthy download is rather down to personal preference, then; however, if you’re undecided then it’s worth noting that there’s a Lite version of the application also available and this should give you a clear indication of its potential usefulness.
