The problem with smartphone leaks is that sometimes people get their wires crossed, which is something we’re potentially facing with this latest information regarding HTC. According to some leaked information the company is working on an HTC One E9 handset to follow on from the One M9 flagship.
The issue here is that the alleged spec line-up sounds far closer to the already rumoured HTC One M9 Plus, according to the details the E9 is a premium offering including a 5.5in QHD display and a MediaTek octa-core 2GHz processor with 3GB of RAM, as well as copycat parts from the regular HTC One M9; the 20MP camera sensor and 2,800mAh battery.
This is confusing because not only did we think the M9 Plus already had this hardware, but the One E8 from last year was essentially a cheaper version of the One M8 with a plastic body and reduced specs, making this year’s E9, if the rumour is accurate, a completely different animal.
News of the new handset comes via a posting by Chinese certification body TENAA, which also includes an image of the device which you can see at the top of this article. The filing included details of the phone’s display size and proportions (156.5×76.5×7.54 mm, thinner than the M9) and battery. Meanwhile, well-regarded Twitter source @Upleaks posted the remaining details regarding display resolution and internal hardware. The leakster also says the handset will arrive inside March, so hopefully the mystery will be solved imminently.
