After months of speculation, the Nintendo Switch LITE is now 100% official, following an official announcement by Nintendo – it’ll be available from September…
The Nintendo Switch LITE is official, following a statement from Nintendo. The smaller Nintendo Switch console had been rumored for months alongside the Nintendo Switch Pro. But it is now finally official, confirming what many fans had long expected.
The Nintendo Switch LITE is smaller than the standard Nintendo Switch; it has a 5.5in 720p display and will retail for just $199.99 when it becomes available on September 20. As expected, the design is slightly different too – the JoyCons are now built in and are non-removable.
Turns out ALL those leaks were pretty much bang on the money this time…

- Weight – .61lbs
- Battery Life – 3-7 hours, depending on usage
Is The Nintendo Switch LITE Compatible With All Switch Games?
Yes, the Nintendo Switch LITE is compatible with all current Switch games and titles. However, Nintendo adds, “for games that do not support handheld mode, players can wirelessly connect compatible controllers (sold separately) to Nintendo Switch Lite. If using separate Joy-Con controllers, users will need to have a device to recharge them, such as the Joy-Con Charging Grip.”
The Nintendo Switch LITE will not connect to your TV, nor does it feature Tabletop Mode, HD Rumble or Nintendo’s IR Motion Camera.
Link’s Awakening will launch at the same time as the Nintendo Switch LITE, it’s a Pokemon game. Furthermore, on November 20, Nintendo will release a Pokemon-themed version of the Nintendo Switch LITE.
Nintendo Switch LITE vs Nintendo Switch – Any Difference?
According to Nintendo, despite the smaller size, there is no performance disparity between the Nintendo Switch LITE and the Nintendo Switch.
Both consoles run the same hardware and deliver the same level of performance. The only real difference between the Nintendo Switch LITE and the Nintendo Switch is to do with size and the design of the device, as well as its connectivity (which is pretty limited compared to the standard Nintendo Switch).
Where things will get interesting is when Nintendo announces the true-successor to the Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo Switch 2 (AKA the Nintendo Switch PRO)…
