LG has launched the GW550, a Qwerty-equipped device at CommunicAsia this week.

The handset has a RIM-esque form that places it directly amongst the Curves and E71s of the phone world, so it’ll need to be packing some punch to survive.

Spec-wise the GW550 will come with a 2.4-inch QVGA display nestled above the Qwerty keypad and a 3-megapixel camera bringing up the rear.

The 550 will come with 7.2Mbps HSDPA and 2.0Mbps HSUPA but seems to omit the WiFi option altogether, which is a shame.

What it does boast is dual stereo speakers and the Windows Mobile 6.1 OS, which may or may not be a good thing depending on your predilection. It also packs in a 1300mAh, long-life battery for less frequent charging needs.

LG did neglect to offer any availability or release date info, but we’d expect to hear something solid in the near future given that it’ll be packing Windows Mobile 6.1 rather than the upcoming 6.5 version.
