During Apple’s keynote address to its developers and the tech-following world at large yesterday, it was confirmed that TomTom’s navigation software would be making an appearance on the iPhone in the near future.
It’s not the biggest surprise to hear that one of the most popular SatNav makers and one of the most popular mobile handset brands are forming such an alliance, but this app comes with a twist.
More than just software, the app forms a part of the TomTom Car Kit, which also comprises an in-car docking station to keep you on the right side of the law when it comes to using a phone whilst driving.
The new iPhone battery is reported to last 20% longer but don’t despair if you’ve got a current-gen handset you won’t arrive with a dead battery as the docking station charges it whilst you drive.
Apple’s keynote also promised that the Car Kit will actually enhance GPS signal, but we’ll believe that one when we see it. The kit is set to go on sale along with the app this summer, pricing as yet unknown.
