Apple makes two models of the iPhone 8: the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus, and you can get both of these models in the following colors:

iPhone 8 Colors Overview

  • Space Grey – The space grey iPhone 8 color option is one of the most popular. Decked out in dark blacks and deep greys, Space Grey makes the iPhone 8 look mean and purposeful. You also get a more focussed viewing experience as well; the bezels on this color option are far less distracting because they’re black, so the display kind of just melts into it.
  • Silver – The silver iPhone 8 range is also a popular option. The silver looks smart and clean, though it does use white bezels on the front of the device, which creates a pretty stark contrast between the display and the outer chassis of the phone itself. Given a choice, I’d always go with the Space Grey over the silver model.
  • Gold – Gold is always a popular choice when it comes to iPhones. People just love anything gold, always have done. And the gold iPhone 8 is very attractive, but like the silver iPhone 8 it does have white bezels on the front and these can be rather distracting, as they don’t blend in with the display as nicely as on the Space Grey model.
  • PRODUCT(RED) iPhone 8 – The PRODUCT(RED) iPhone 8, next to the space grey option, is easily our #1 favorite iPhone 8 color option. It’s totally unique, loud, and it looks utterly brilliant with its Ferrari-red back panel and accents and dark front bezels that, like the space grey model, make the overall design of the iPhone look a lot tighter and more refined.

Best iPhone 8 Color Option?

Beauty resides in the eye of the beholder, so it is next to impossible to say what the best iPhone 8 color is – everyone’s’ tastes will differ. Me personally, I like the space grey and PRODUCT(RED) colors the most, as they’re the coolest-looking iPhone 8 colors (for my tastes).

Again, the reason for this isn’t just down to aesthetics. It has a lot to do with the color of the iPhone 8’s bezels, which, on the lighter color models are white. I like my bezels like I like my coffee: black. And the reason? Black bezels look better when the screen is off, as the display kind of disappears into the chassis, and there’s less distraction when using the display as well – white has WAY more contrast.

The reason I love the PRODUCT(RED) edition iPhone 8 so much is because it is totally unique – you hardly see them anywhere. The red color looks totally badass as well, giving the iPhone 8/iPhone 8 Plus a totally eye-catching and more aggressive appearance. Plus, every time I look at it, it kind of reminds me of a Ferrari.

Most Popular iPhone 8 Color?

Apple hasn’t released any data about the most popular and best selling iPhone 8 colors, though there is plenty of data about the iPhone 7’s most popular color options, which is detailed below:

  1. Matte Black
  2. Rose Gold
  3. Jet Black
  4. Silver

According to Carphone Warehouse, around two-thirds (or 66%) of users bought a dark-colored iPhone – either the Matte Black or Jet Black models. Why? I think it has a lot to do with the bezels; dark bezels make the phone look more attractive. On top of this, darker colors don’t show dirt and marks as easily.

Things To Keep In Mind (Durability, Scuffing & Scratching)

If you’re not bothered by the color of your iPhone, there are other things you need to consider – things that might make you start to care a little more about the color of your iPhone 8.

For instance, did you know that the silver iPhone 8 is best for not showing up scuffs and scratches? The reason for this is simple: the iPhone 8 has an aluminum body, so when it gets scratched, those scratches are silver. On a silver iPhone 8, these scratches have less contrast – especially when compared to the black and red versions.

Gold iPhones aren’t quite as good as silver iPhones for hiding scuffs and scratches, but they are better than the space grey and PRODUCT(RED) models. And, again, the reason is contrast – a silver scratch is more obvious on a red or black surface. Gold and silver, therefore, are ideal options if you’re worried about scuffs and scrapes.

Space grey and the PRODUCT(RED) iPhone 8 might look the best, but when they scuff it’s very obvious. For this reason, it is probably advisable that you get yourself a clear case for these models. It will stop any errant scratches and keep your beautiful, dark iPhone 8 free from scuffs for good.

Still Not Sure?

If you’re still undecided on what color iPhone 8 is right for you, don’t stress it – in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t make ANY difference to how the phone performs. It’s all down to preference. Plus, if you use a case for your iPhone 8, you won’t even see the back and sides of the phone anyway (unless you use a clear one).

Me personally? I’d go with space grey or PRODUCT(RED), and the reason is simple: I just think they look the best. Plus, they have black bezels on the front which look tidier and provides fewer distractions when viewing media on the iPhone 8’s display.

Is the iPhone 8 still a good option? If you’re after value for money, then, yes, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, which are now rather cheap via Amazon, offer up excellent value for money. You’re getting killer performance, Apple’s “classic iPhone design”, and a great camera experience for less than $500…

This means you can buy the phone outright and then shop around for the best SIM-only deal for your calls and data, saving you even more money in the long run.
