Bethesda has revealed that it’s working on an iPhone version of its apocalypse RPG smash hit Fallout 3.
Before you get too excited though, it’s very much in a design stage and could easily get stuck there. Joystiq got to talk to Bethesda’s Todd Howard at E3, and he confirmed the company’s interest in the platform saying, “I think that the world of Fallout is unique enough that it could work on any platform. I think some of the things we do like VATS, I think that could translate to any platform, particularly the iPhone”.
However, he also stated that the designs Bethesda has tried out so far haven’t managed to inspire them to go the whole distance and commit to actually developing the final product. “(We looked at) the iPhone versions that we’ve designed and said ‘Ehh, we don’t think we’re going to do that right now,’ there are … there are a lot of them,” Tod Howard told Joystiq.
Much as we’d love to see Fallout 3, we’d love to see it done right rather than a disappointing tie-in, like we saw with Metal Gear Solid Touch. Let’s just hope they keep on plugging away at that Fallout 3 iPhone idea.
