Apple’s annual September iPhone launch is the next big thing on the agenda following IFA 2018, which is currently happening in Berlin, Germany.
Perhaps in a bid to steal some of the limelight currently focused on the European capital, Apple has now confirmed that its launch event will take place on September 12 and has begun issuing invitations.
This is the very same date as the iPhone launch last year. It’ll take place at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino.
Apple iPhone X Launch Date
It’s expected that Apple will launch three iPhones at the event, a direct successor to the iPhone X (5.8in), a 6.5in iPhone Plus model also leading on from the iPhone X but keeping the iPhone 8 Plus proportions, and lastly an allegedly cheaper 6.1in iPhone with an LCD display.
All three are said to keep the iPhone X design aesthetic and will have front-facing cameras with Face ID 3D scanning and security technology. Even the cheaper model won’t have a Touch ID button.
In the past, Apple’s September iPhone launched have sometimes shared the stage with new Mac computers and on at least one occasion the Apple Watch. However, usually the firm keeps its iPad launch separate, but with that said there are some rumours Apple might introduce new iPad Pro models at the same event. It’s thought Apple has an iPad Pro 10.5 and an iPad Pro 12.9 in the works which will share some features with the iPhone X, such as Face ID.
On top of all that, there’s also whispers of a fourth generation Apple Watch breaking cover. While Apple’s invitations usually hint at something thematic to the products being unveiled, the circular rose gold or copper shape on this year’s promo would imply a watch face. If it’s not that then perhaps it indicates the camera sensors on an iPhone and/or iPad? That’s about the extent of our ideas!
Apple iPhone LEAKS
No sooner had Apple revealed this event, and someone hit the web with some spoilers for the forthcoming iPhone crop. A leaked promotional image, which looks to be very official in style, was sourced by 9To5Mac.
The image appears to show two of the suspected three iPhones stacked on top of each other and displaying a high-resolution wallpaper in such a way that it merges on each display. The duo in question are likely the regular iPhone on top, and the iPhone Plus on the bottom.
But wait, there’s more. The report claims 100% certainty of the regular iPhone model’s name, which is said to be the iPhone XS.
The report did not have details on the naming of the Plus model, but iPhone XS Plus seems like a reasonably safe assumption, though we wouldn’t bet money on it.
As a final note, the report also claimed to confirm there will be a gold colour option available – which would certainly fit with Apple’s golden circle motif – though it wasn’t specified which models will be made in this shiny hue.
