According to a new leak, HTC’s next flagship will feature a new colour finish referred to as “Matte White Glass”. The word comes via HTC Source, which claims to have heard from a “trusted” tipster on the subject of the HTC U12’s design; the source claims the phone will have the same glass sandwich design as the HTC U11, together with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner (which presumably means an edge-to-edge 18:9 display), and a dual-sensor primary camera.
However, there is one key difference with the exterior design. Previously the HTC U11 used what was referred to as “Liquid Glass” for that ultra-shiny mirror finish, but for the HTC U12 the high-sheen gloss will be replaced with a matte finish in white, which will still be glass, allegedly.
I for one am very happy to hear this, as although I liked the HTC U11 overall, I could not stand the blingy high-shine finish and wished a matte option was available. Someone at HTC may have been listening, as it turns out.
We don’t have any further details at present, but we can speculate that perhaps this matte white glass finish will be a frosted glass style with some limited translucency. In our view it is also likely white will not be the only colour finish available. It’s possible too that HTC will still offer shiny Liquid Glass colour options alongside the matte colours.
