Rovio Mobile has just posted on its blog the news Angry Birds Rio, the latest update to the game created in conjunction with Twentieth Century Fox, is an Android exclusive.
Downloadable from the Amazon Appstore, the Rio version will feature the animated stars from the forthcoming film in movie tie-in fashion, as well as 60 levels and even more content in future updates.
“The Android platform has seen phenomenal growth, and it’s great that new avenues for app distribution are opening up,” said Mikael Hed, CEO of Rovio (100 million downloads).
“The openness of the Android platform works for the benefit of consumers and developers alike. It has been delightful to team up with Amazon to bring the Angry Birds franchise to this great new application marketplace.”
Peter Levinsohn, president of new media and digital distribution for Twentieth Century Fox said, “Angry Birds Rio is a fun and interactive way to introduce millions of fans to the exciting world of ‘RIO,’ and we are proud to work with both Rovio and Amazon to make this experience available to users on the Android platform.”
On a related note, Angry Birds and Angry Birds Seasons will be available advert-free from the Amazon Appstore as paid versions. No more banners – if you don’t mind fronting up cash like on iPhone and iPad.
