Angry Birds enjoys surge of Android downloads

Just as we were saying Angry Birds might have a new contender to worry about, Angry Birds downloads managed to crash GetJar when 1,000,000 of you tried to get your mitts on the non-beta version.

Yes, 1,000,000 downloads on the launch day alone, which shows just how much clout Rovio Mobile and its mobile bird-slinging phenomenon has, even though it was launched many months ago.

We recently reported Cut the Rope on iPhone knocked it off top spot on iTunes, thinking maybe the Angry Birds train was losing speed, but it seems it has announced itself as king of the Android marketplace, instead.

Not bad for the application that cost a far from soaring development price of £70,000.
