SanDisk’s iXpand Wireless Charger Charges AND Saves Your Pictures

The SanDisk iXpand Wireless Charger is a wireless charging platform with a difference – it takes a full backup of your phone every time it charges!

Wireless charging platforms are becoming increasingly popular. IKEA even makes a range of home furnishings with wireless charging points built into them. And the reason? Most phones, whether Android or iPhone, now feature wireless charging. And SanDisk has a new product that does something a little different…

The SanDisk iXpand Wireless Charger will not only charge your phone wirelessly but while it is doing this it will also backup your phone’s photos onto its built-in 256GB hard drive. Why is this cool? Well, for one it’s an extra layer of protection for your photos, keeping copies of them in case anything happens to your phone.

The second reason is that it does it all in the background. All you have to do is put your phone on the SanDisk iXpand Wireless Charger to charge and it will automatically back-up any new photos. And if you use it every night, any new photos you’ve taken will be 100% backed up by the time you wake up in the morning.

“Today’s consumers understand that backup is important, but also have many competing priorities in their lives. That is why we created a hassle-free solution that doesn’t disrupt people’s daily habits,” said Patricia Corcoran, senior product marketing manager, SanDisk-branded products, Western Digital. “The iXpand Wireless Charger makes it easy for you to wake up every day to a phone that’s fully charged and photos and videos completely backed up.”

No other wireless charger can do this, so SanDisk has something of a unique product on its hands here.

And it’s not just your photos, either. The SanDisk iXpand Wireless Charger will also do all your videos and contacts, ensuring everything that’s important is physically backed up in a secure place. As for size, it measures in at 100.25 mm × 201.39 mm (or about the size of the palm of your hand).

How To Set-Up The SanDisk iXpand Wireless Charger

Setting up the iXpand Wireless Charger is fairly simple. On the bottom of the box is a QR code. You scan this with your phone and it takes you to either the Google Play Store or Apple’s App Store where you can download the iXpand Wireless Charger app.

Once you have the app installed on your phone, and the iXpand Wireless Charger, is connected to the mains, tap the large icon in the application to pair the devices. You only have to do this once and it will keep the iXpand Wireless Charger and your phone connected for life. Or until you decide to unpair them.

You’ll want to find a good place to store your iXpand Wireless Charger; I like to have mine on my bedside table. That way, when I put my phone on it to charge overnight, everything on it is backed up while I sleep. Other options for places to have it might be your office, your desk where you work, or the living room. And because of its size, the iXpand Wireless Charger will pretty much fit anywhere.

The iXpand Wireless Charger can use either mobile data or WiFi to back up your photos. Personally, I always use WiFi, as I keep my iXpand Wireless Charger in my house where it is connected to my home network. You can set it to back-up over mobile data connections, and you have to give the app permissions to access your phone’s location and connections or else it won’t work.

Does It Charge Fast?

The iXpand Wireless Charger uses 10W wireless charging, so it is fairly quick providing you give it enough time. If you’re leaving it overnight, so for 6-8 hours, then not only will your phone be fully charged by the morning, but all your photos, videos, and any new contacts will also be backed up.

Should You Buy The iXpand Wireless Charger?

If you’re looking for a robust wireless charging solution that also doubles as a back-up drive for your images, videos, and contacts, then, yes, you should 100% be looking at the iXpand Wireless Charger. Right now, there is nothing else quite like it on the market. And with 256GB of potential storage, you’ve got plenty of room to play with as well.

Using the iXpand Wireless Charger to backup your images will save you space on your iCloud and Google Photos accounts. It’s also a good double-safe method for keeping your photos and videos safe. For those that don’t use cloud storage on iPhone or Android, the iXpand Wireless Charger makes perfect sense: you can back up everything into a physical location, where it will remain safely until you choose to remove it.
