Sony Ericsson W910i camera samples

A range of sample digital photos to demonstrate the performance of the Sony Ericsson W910i's 2.0-megapixel camera

Published on Dec 14, 2007

The Sony Ericsson W910i is equipped with a 2.0-megapixel camera on the back, and a secondary camera mainly for 3G video calling on the front, above the display.

The 2.0-megapixel camera has a fixed focus lens, with no autofocus or macro shooting option for close-ups. There's no flash or photo light either, so the W910i relies on a night mode option for improving low light shots. There is a 2.5x digital zoom option, although this only available in lower quality VGA mode.

Camera setting adjustments are limited. There are three picture size settings (2-megapixels, 1-megapixel and VGA), and four while balance options (auto, daylight, cloudy, fluorescent and incandescent). The camera can be set for self-timer shots, and there's a four-shot multi-pic burst option, a panorama setting and an option to shoot images with fun frames on them. Additional effects can be added before shooting - sepia, black and white or negative.

Sony Ericsson has included its PhotoDJ editor software in the W910i. This allows for some tweaking of images, with options for brightness, contrast and colour balance, plus additional picture effects and the facility to superimpose additional images, text and clipart on to pictures. You can also send pictures and video clips to a Blogger blog quickly and easily, thanks to a Send option available when you capture an image.

Although Sony Ericsson produces some of the finest cameraphones around in its Cyber-shot range, it has so far included more limited versions on its Walkman phones. The W910i's camera is a pretty standard, basic 2-megapixel model that can produce pleasant shots. But results are limited in detail and precision because of the image quality available, and lack of shooting aids like autofocus, macro mode and flash.

Colours are generally well delivered by the W910i, with the automatic white balance adjusting well to changing lighting conditions. But high contrast images are sometimes not dealt with particularly well. Indoors or low-light shots exhibit picture noise, as you might expect, even with night mode on.
